[As the team in Esdham handles the Mog Network device they found, the screen springs to life. That is, it’s covered in gray snow while Mordecai fiddles with the device found in the Ruins of Roalie.]

Hello, anyone hear me? [An older man’s voice is heard before the image clears up: the Barkeep’s familiar old face fills up the screen, though now he is framed by long black locks. He taps the screen with a finger.] See? Told ya I’m a natural.

[Being from the future and married to a tech person helps with strategically pushing buttons on strange machines.]

If y’all can hear this, I’mma let you know that I’m okay, we’re by the airship, don’t know where everyone is, and my hair grew out. [He brushes a black lock out behind his ear.] And now we got holophones or somethin’. Signal must be terrible out here in the middle of nowhere, can’t blame ‘em for not buildin’ no towers out here. Makes you wonder why they even left one of those OS crystals out here, unless--

[The flat-as-ever voice of Sparks Nevada can be heard piping up behind the Barkeep.]

Quit ramblin’, Barkeep. People ain’t here to listen to yer tech advice, and we don’t know how much juice this thing’s got. Just tell ‘em about the vision or whatever already.

Oh yeah, Sparks and Rialynn are here and totally fine. [No biggie.]

Right, now that vision of the future I got just as I woke. [Adding emphasis on the mystical concept of ~future~] We were fightin’ Kalki, only possessin’ Ramza like we last saw her, ‘cause the actual Kalki - her body, not her spirit - is deader than a doornail. Dunno where we were, but there’re crystals everyone, floatin’ platforms, too, and she sent that dragon summon Bahamut after us. We killed that thing pretty darn good, but then it got angry and grew a couple stories taller before gettin’ a second wind. That’s all I got before we had to head out. I got some food that’ll last a few days, but other than that, it’s empty as heck out here.

[Sparks’s face comes into view alongside Barkeep’s as he finished up, slowly pushing him out of view. The Barkeep’s cheek smushes against his mouth, preventing him from speaking.]

( if you listen closely, the sound of an unforgiving palm meeting a forehead echoes in the background… )

Dangit Barkeep I said keep it brief. Reckon some of you mighta heard that voice when we got knocked outta battle, right? That was the Queen, right? Told us to rest up cuz we’d need our energy to fight Kalki. Or Ramza, I guess. Said it was all she could do to help us stop the Cycle. I’m thinkin’ she mighta put us out for a little too long… Anyway, uh. Someone else is out there, right? We’re not just talking to ourselves, are we?

( there’s an exasperated sigh, as an orange hand made of hair makes an attempt to grab hold of the device for herself, while her arms stay crossed. A less-than-familiar looking Midna comes into view finally, wondering what it was she did exactly to deserve this fate. Both the company she had been forced into, as well as that whole end of the world thing. )

What these gentlemen are trying to say, I’m sure, is that if there’s anyone out there that can hear this transmission… ( or perhaps someone in particular— ) It would be in all of our best interests to re-group or at least share anything we’ve learned with one another.

( and then, a slightly muttered… ) If you haven’t all gone and gotten yourselves killed yet, at least.

((OOC: please list if you are directly speaking to Sparks, Barkeep, Midna, or Vincent to address the group in general))

Everyone,

I've been thinking a few things over and while I've been making good use out of all my jobs, there's one I've been neglecting a bit, especially when we were all preparing for Palitutu.

Are there any who have the Bard job or anyone who is a musician who would be willing to help me practice? I think I have an idea for a custom song or two too but I want to know what other people think. It's a little weird being able to play guitar when I have the job equipped even though I never learned back home.

[ This letter comes in a black envelope. ]

Fellow Heroes of Light.

In the aftermath of our battle with Palitutu, questions have arisen as to how we will face the Emperor. Some amongst us are following what lead we have on the Calamity, others are trying save what can be saved or find what clues those before left for us. However, Garland's defeat will mean nothing if the Calamity is allowed to devour all worlds.

We have been told countless time victory is impossible, yet evidently this hasn't deterred us-- If anything all attempts to discourage us have only served to renforce our convictions, our belief in an eventual victory. And whilst I do share this belief, time is running short.

But nothing is set in stone. Thus my question: what are your plans to deal with the Calamity?

Letter to All Heroes - Sept 3

Everyone,

I've just found out that the Chocobo Forest will be overtaken by the Calamity in less than two weeks. I'm going to head there and see if Chocobo and Mene need any help getting to safety. And maybe to solve this legend of the Chocobo's Paradise before it's too late.

If anyone with a sky pirate's airship can lend a hand I'd appreciate it. I don't know what state they'll be in when we get there. Also it looks like the overland route is taken over. Zack and I can deal with the mountains and the ocean, but I want to minimize the chances we wind up taking.

I plan to depart as soon as possible. With the New Heroes likely to arrive I'll probably set out on the 6th. We have no time to waste, but I know people will be busy welcoming them and they'll need our help just as badly.

Please let me know if you can help,

Cloud

Letter to the New Heroes - Sept 6

To the New Heroes out there,

We've been getting word that you've been finding yourself in strange places. Well, stranger than the usual that we find newcomers in. I'm sorry for this situation and we'll do everything we can to help you once we find you.

If you find your path blocked by what looks like crystal, try to find another way to Aqures Ixen. If you're trapped, please let us know. If you find yourself on the Eastern side of the Calamity, I may be able to find you on my way to the Chocobo's Forest. If you can find your way there I'll do whatever I can to get you back here safely.

Stay safe,

Cloud Strife

[Included with the letter is a list of some of the Heroes that Cloud feels comfortable giving out the names of as additional contacts, including but not limited to Sparks Nevada, Sephiroth, James Kidd, Jack Harkness, Ryoji Kaji, Levy McGarden, Twilight Sparkle and Ramza Beoulve.]

Who: All Heroes of Light
When: September 4

Urgent: Does anyone know the previous Heroes of Light Nebilim or Igor?

Less urgent: Since the city didn't get attacked this year, I have got a wonderful crop of watermelons freshly picked. I think last year's fire might have helped out this year's harvest? Isn't that some metaphor for our situation?

Anyway. I'll try to get them out to everybody, but anyone who wants one, come on by the house. At least give me some warning first, though. Half the moogles coming through here aren't here for me. It seems somebody held a little party while I was gone, it looks like half of Mognet was in my kitchen.

Somebody is also pretty grounded right now.

Cloud:

Interesting that, in the end, it was your suggestion that won the day. Palitutu is alive, comatose, and under guard. Gonna ask me again why people keep looking to you for leadership?

What are your plans next month?

Everyone,

Palitulu wants our answer, in almost exactly a month's time. What do we plan to do about the Calamity? I know our final plan is acting on a lot of fronts, but one of those fronts could be very close to completed, if I can get a little more help from you.

The Interdimensional Rift Project at the lab. I need more help, more money, even though we received an incredibly generous donation already, it isn't quite enough. I'm working on building a Rift Manipulator, as close as I can get to a duplicate of the device that I helped create back home that did exactly what we need. It'll control the energies of the Interdimensional Rift, and if anything is going to get us inside there safely, this can do it.

But why do we need to bother with the Rift in the first place? The Calamity originated from there. Depending on which reports you read, either the First Crystal is in there, or it's in the center of Crystallis. Another team should begin exploring the Crystal Tree of Life to verify which place we need to go. If this Calamity is going to be permanently stopped? Then we need to repair the damage to that Crystal. Either way, the source of the Calamity itself is within the Rift. So we need to go there to stop it.

Like I said, the final plan is going to take a lot of fronts, but the Rift is not one that we can ignore. If literally anyone can help out at the lab? If anyone has spare money to push us over the finish line to donate? I need your help if we're going to fix the core problem behind the Calamity, instead of just hitting the reset button like Garland would, and shatter our worlds to give Crystallis one more cycle.

-Captain Jack Harkness

To Twilight Sparkle:

How viable is the Lunar Gate project? It appears that we are going to lose that location soon, and if so, then I need to return to that place to retrieve some property of mine.

Sir/Madam Hero,

It is impossible to make amends for taking the life on an innocent, but that does not excuse us from doing all we can for the victims of the crimes these past month.

I am starting a fund for the families of the Crystallian victims. Gil will not restore their lives, but hopefully, it will decrease the burden on their loved ones and make sure that the dead can be buried in peace.

You can donate as you feel lead to. Those without financial means can also donate meals to the bereaved. A roster for meals will be posted on the bulletin board and donations can be received at the bank.

I thank you for your aid.

By my own hand,
Ramza Beoulve

For Free To Good Homes: Seven (7) Experience Orbs.

Keeping one for myself, and one already went to Ib. But if you're going to accept one of these, it comes with conditions. You're taking one because you actually need one, and because you're going to use it so you can use your strongest Jobs to stand with us in the defense of Aqures Ixen come August.

If I can't cut and run, neither can you.

But now that I've got everybody's attention. I need some assistance at the Observatory, if we're going to keep the place, and if the Guild of the Heroes of Light is going to continue. Her Highness Zelda was doing a lot to keep us afloat, and was coordinating with a number of the other remaining governments in the world. I was assisting her part-time, but since we lost her, and the other gentleman who was here a lot has run off (a decision I can't fault him for, honestly), I can't do this all alone. If I don't get some help here, I'm going to have to quit at the Laboratory, which is going to set back some of the research.

No experience needed, write letters, file paperwork, crunch some numbers, but if you've got some diplomatic or administrative background, you'd be welcomed. The pay's nothing, and the thanks is less than that, but at least the tea is good.

-Ryoji Kaji.

-----

To: Tazendra, Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Yuna, Ramza Beoulve, Chrom, Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armor.

(All of the enclosed get copies of this letter, and all replies will be sent to all. Every time the moogles deliver one to Kaji, they seem to come back with Kupo Nut cookies to encourage them for all the extra work.)

If you're getting this letter, then the last time that there was a discussion about who could step up to lead the Heroes of Light if anything happened to Princess Zelda, your name came up. You are people who have exemplified what both the Princess Ashe and the Princess Zelda were trying to exemplify in leading us before. And you are people who other people have already started looking up to and listening to. You can feel free to decline, or to nominate someone else that you think is better for the job. The only person I'm gonna outright veto is Marshall Nevada. Even though he fits the exact characteristics I put up above, he's needed where he's currently at. Decide amongst yourselves, or pick somebody else, but we're getting a new leader.

And, before this discussion even gets started, I suppose I have to apologize to Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor for accusing them of murder.

We all need each other now. The first Hero of Light dying for real was what set off the division between Heroes in that vision the Sage sent us. If we want to avoid what we saw? We need to change that future now.

-Ryoji Kaji.

-----

To Sparks Nevada.

(One experience orb for Kaji, one for Ib, seven for sale...where is the tenth orb? In a package specifically marked for the Marshall.)

What I said to everyone goes double for you. This month would have been so much worse without your efforts. And you nearly killed yourself doing all that you could. This was the best way I could show that it was appreciated. And to let you know that we need you standing in Palitulu's way in a month's time. Specifically, you.

You're a leader, not just to the Heroes of Light, but the people of Aqures Ixen. We're all going to be looking to you when the time comes. There's not really anything you can do now to change that. So, maybe this will help you be there at your best.

-Ryoji Kaji.

[A letter addressed to all the Heroes]

Everyone,

A few months ago I took a journey to find the Chocobo Forest in the hopes of finding a way to heal Zack after he had turned ill. I need to again thank everyone who came along with me on that trip, and no amount of thanks will ever be enough.

We didn't exactly find what we were looking for when we went there. The Chocobo Forest was pretty much empty of any birds. What we did find were a boy and a moogle who told us the tale of the forest and ruins in it. It seems it used to be the location of the Chocobo's Paradise in some previous cycle, if not before all of this began. According to the tale it was ruled over by the Fat Chocobo, who could give his blessings to the others and give them powers and new colors.

While we searched the forest we found a map that took us to a location in a Calm Lands. The chest we found had some smoke inside that put our chocobos in a daze, but when they woke up a few of them had changed colors just like in the legend. On top of that Zack has since been able to swim through deeper water than he had been able to previously. And most of all, he had been healed.

I've seen no unhealthy turns for any of the birds since then, and I was thinking maybe it would be a good time to go back to the Chocobo Forest to see if we can find any other clues about the Chocobo's Paradise. The forest isn't at risk of being swallowed by the Calamity yet, but I still think it would be better to pursue this sooner than later. When I suggested the trip to Zack he seemed really excited about it too.

Any who want to come along are welcome, even if you don't have a bird of your own. I'll need some time to get things in order so we probably wouldn't be going until sometime next month. If the beginning or end of the month works better for you, please let me know. This trip wouldn't be as much as a labor as last time, but if anyone has a way to help us get there and back faster that would be nice.

Take care,
Cloud Strife

To all the Heroes of Light,

I know there’s probably a lot on all of our minds considering what we recently experienced. I’m still considering the part in it all that I played and...I’m not sure if I should apologize for what I guess I thought was the right thing to do, even if I’m not happy about what it helped to lead to. But that’s not why I’m writing this letter.

My dream has always been to be a Hero. I wanted to be noticed. I wanted people to respect me for what I could do. When I was a kid I thought I was better than all the other kids in town and that’s why they hated me. I thought I’d move to the big city and be a great Hero like someone I still look up to. I was wrong about that.

Between what I thought was right back on Gaia, and what I thought was right in that...vision, I want to know what you all think a Hero is? What makes someone a Hero? And how do I become one without losing myself trying to get there?

Cloud Strife

[A second letter is sent to Terra, everyone from Gaia, Albel and Graham]

We don’t have to talk about what happened in that other future if you don’t want to, but I’d like to see all of you if you’re free. It doesn’t have to be all at once, but I think I have something to say to each of you, whether an apology or to ask about your own choices. I don’t blame any of you for anything you did Or we don’t have to talk about it at all, but I’d still like to see you..

[A postscript is added to the letter to Chiaki]

PS: I still have a bit of a belly from the cookies I ate while using the Santa job and some days it’s a bit too cold to go jogging. Can I use that dancing game you got from Mysidia?

Concerning the latest 'unknown' message that was delivered across the Mognet a few days ago, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought back to the events that came to pass on the last Eve of the 13 Moogles. Therefore, I thought it prudent to request a visit with Mograma but then was reminded of the last time that I had spoken with our furry friend who still wallows behind bars in Esdham. That is, the one individual who might grant us an insight of what might come to be expected this year, or whom might be behind it, quite often demands release - or at least some sort of parole in order for us to gain any sort of cooperation whatsoever.

In truth, he feels rather discriminated being as he was used as a pawn in part of a larger game, the master of which has seemingly vanished alongside Palitutu. Circumstances, indeed, have changed.

I took it upon myself to contact with General Varaha about the situation, who has informed me that Mograma is set for execution in January. It was communicated to me that Mograma could be returned to Aqures Ixen, but that I -and two other Heroes who could support the request- would have to take full responsibility in case of any mis-dealings, or disappearances, should we agree to grant the mog a small measure of freedom in exchange for information which -I believe- may eventually be of great import to our purposes here in Crystallis.

Let us not forget, how prior to the attempt at King Moggle Mog's resurrection last year, a fair few of us had our rightful abilities restored to us. The research into Custom Jobs may well benefit from cooperation from Mograma as well, with this in mind.

Please, let me know your thoughts regarding this matter, and any ideas how we might assert our authority over Mograma should he be granted this parole.

Dear Heroes,

I’m glad to see what progress has been made on the observatory. I am happy to say that I have been able to clean a few room including a room that I set up as a meeting room as well as a large room that within the month should be furnished with beds should we need barracks of some sort.

The stables are well underway and almost completely constructed. I know there are a few large animals from people’s homes and they are welcome to use this space as well as chocobo knights to keep your birds close. There is only room for 10 at this moment but I’m hoping to can expand the space should we need it.

I will be tending to the animals kept there as well as keeping the gardens tended. Since its spring I’m going to start planting things around the building and making space for outside gatherings. I have been trying to head up the project of putting the observatory back together. There are more rooms in the basement that have also fallen into disrepair. If there are any suggestions as to what the heroes would like in these rooms please let me know, also any help would be appreciated. I am always at the observatory and will be happy to meet with anyone.

Also those willing to help with these rebuild efforts. I have some money I’ve been using to buy things for the rooms but it won’t be enough for the whole building. If anyone if able to lend a hand or do odd jobs to help us raise funds it will be helpful. I’m also going to ask the city if there is anything we can do as a hole to procure funds for the restoration.

If you have any questions please let me know! I can’t wait to hear from you all!

Hello, my name is Yugi Mutou and I thought I might as well ask, but I was wondering if anyone was willing to come with me to go monster hunting?

I ask because of my Job as a Beastmaster requires me to have some sort of companion and well... I don't currently have one. So I thought I would go out there and try and capture a monster and fight alongside it. But I need help in order to even do that.

I would like to hear from those who want to help and I would be very grateful for it.

Dear Heroes of Light,

It looks like all of us are settling back in, huh? Things were a bit scary for a while, so I'm happy to see that those of us who were held in the facility made it back in one piece. I feel like a lot of us grew close because of what we went through, but I wish we had been able to meet under better circumstances.

I think it might be fun for everyone to get together and get things going on the right foot this time. No scary laboratories, no experimentation threats, just a bunch of comrades getting together and getting to know one another. We're supposed to be working together, right? It would probably look bad if the Heroes of Light don't really know one another.

I don't know Aqures Ixen very well yet, so I'm open to ideas. Send me your suggestions.

I can't wait to meet everyone.

Sincerely yours,

PS. Yuffie told me that a few friends were here in Crystallis, but she wouldn't tell me who.

 Greetings heroes,

New and old.

We've been through some trying times.

Lady Ashelia and I have been cleaning up the observatory so that the heroes will be able to use it. I'd love suggestions for the guild as well as those interested in helping us out because there is a lot of work still to be done. I know it is hard being here but banning together will be the easiest way to find our way back home.

Everyone does things differently and we don't want to tell anyone what to do. I hope to collect information about this world, the legends and what trials we might face. I have collected a lot of information for anyone curious as to what we currently know. I will be collecting my notes and putting them together for everyone to be able to read at the observatory.

I'd like those interested in helping organize our efforts meet to talk. Our situation is precarious and we must keep that in mind with our actions. It might be hard and times will be trying but we will all support each other. It's what makes us strong. I am happy to speak to anyone and my home is always open for visitors.

~Zelda

Tifa,

Mako has told me about Valentione's Day and the story behind it and how people in this world celebrate the holiday. I was wondering if you weren't doing anything on the 14th if you'd like to come over and have dinner at my place. I've been practicing cooking since I got here and I wanted to try to make something for you.

Dear: Those it May Concern,

I noticed that my moogle had put up flyers about my first game this session. I am not too happy that he did even though his excitement is admirable. I missed the game due to the importance of traveling to Esdham. I will be playing on the team here as a regular player and while I am excited I am sorry if those flyers seemed odd. I do not plan to make it a habit to post such a thing and I have asked Celes to refrain as well.

That being said, I think that it is always better to have hope when things appear to be difficult or sad. Blitzball is a hope that I would like to share with others. It has kept hope alive in my world for so long. To be able to cheer for your favorite team and get caught up in the simple excitement of the game. It isn’t a solution but I will work to keep that hope alive anyway.

[After a month of getting to know the city, listening to news, and experimenting with his new powers, Jade felt it was about time he paid a visit to the hospital. The crystals were fascinating to begin with, but it was the stories of people falling into stasis that had truly caught his attention.

Well, that wasn't quite accurate. The intriguing bit had been his Moogle fervently claiming that the phenomenon could even return dead Heroes to life. Come to think of it, there had been a letter from Jessie earlier that month claiming the same thing. Such a thing was impossible, of course... but perhaps he had been too hasty in dismissing the idea. There had to be a logical explanation, and he had every intention of finding it.

So Jade asked to see his crystallized comrades, took his time to witness for himself the fate they had met... and stopped to stare at one particular frozen face, dumbfounded.

"Luke...?"]

[A brief letter reaches the other Heroes shortly after.]

Greetings to you all,

I would like anyone who met Luke fon Fabre prior to his Crystal Stasis to contact me at the earliest opportunity. To everyone else, I have a question: Were any among you near death prior to being brought to Crystallis, only to appear here in perfect health?

Dear Heroes of Light,

I apologize for taking some of your time with one of these letters, but I have important matters to write about.

I can no longer access my Jobs ever since the 15th of this month, but powers that were mine in my world have returned to me at the same time. Ever since then, I have fallen sick and I am afraid my state is quickly deteriorating. It is too early to say whether the disease and the return of my powers are related, but the coincidence between the two events seem to be a remarkable one. I have read a few different accounts of powers returning, and I was wondering if anyone's health had been affected by the sudden change? If not, then this is for the best. Yet, I would advise caution.

Most importantly, the Moogle that has been assigned to assist me, Mogrule, was wounded upon delivering me a letter. She has told me a few of her friends have been wounded as well in the course of their duties these past few days, but it seems no official statements have been made yet. Again, I would advise caution if sending letters on long distances. (Mogrule Note: I've insisted to deliver this letter, Kupo! The princess didn't want me to do it, but terrorism on moogles shall not win, Kupo!)

Thank you for your attention.
