[As the team in Esdham handles the Mog Network device they found, the screen springs to life. That is, it’s covered in gray snow while Mordecai fiddles with the device found in the Ruins of Roalie.]

Hello, anyone hear me? [An older man’s voice is heard before the image clears up: the Barkeep’s familiar old face fills up the screen, though now he is framed by long black locks. He taps the screen with a finger.] See? Told ya I’m a natural.

[Being from the future and married to a tech person helps with strategically pushing buttons on strange machines.]

If y’all can hear this, I’mma let you know that I’m okay, we’re by the airship, don’t know where everyone is, and my hair grew out. [He brushes a black lock out behind his ear.] And now we got holophones or somethin’. Signal must be terrible out here in the middle of nowhere, can’t blame ‘em for not buildin’ no towers out here. Makes you wonder why they even left one of those OS crystals out here, unless--

[The flat-as-ever voice of Sparks Nevada can be heard piping up behind the Barkeep.]

Quit ramblin’, Barkeep. People ain’t here to listen to yer tech advice, and we don’t know how much juice this thing’s got. Just tell ‘em about the vision or whatever already.

Oh yeah, Sparks and Rialynn are here and totally fine. [No biggie.]

Right, now that vision of the future I got just as I woke. [Adding emphasis on the mystical concept of ~future~] We were fightin’ Kalki, only possessin’ Ramza like we last saw her, ‘cause the actual Kalki - her body, not her spirit - is deader than a doornail. Dunno where we were, but there’re crystals everyone, floatin’ platforms, too, and she sent that dragon summon Bahamut after us. We killed that thing pretty darn good, but then it got angry and grew a couple stories taller before gettin’ a second wind. That’s all I got before we had to head out. I got some food that’ll last a few days, but other than that, it’s empty as heck out here.

[Sparks’s face comes into view alongside Barkeep’s as he finished up, slowly pushing him out of view. The Barkeep’s cheek smushes against his mouth, preventing him from speaking.]

( if you listen closely, the sound of an unforgiving palm meeting a forehead echoes in the background… )

Dangit Barkeep I said keep it brief. Reckon some of you mighta heard that voice when we got knocked outta battle, right? That was the Queen, right? Told us to rest up cuz we’d need our energy to fight Kalki. Or Ramza, I guess. Said it was all she could do to help us stop the Cycle. I’m thinkin’ she mighta put us out for a little too long… Anyway, uh. Someone else is out there, right? We’re not just talking to ourselves, are we?

( there’s an exasperated sigh, as an orange hand made of hair makes an attempt to grab hold of the device for herself, while her arms stay crossed. A less-than-familiar looking Midna comes into view finally, wondering what it was she did exactly to deserve this fate. Both the company she had been forced into, as well as that whole end of the world thing. )

What these gentlemen are trying to say, I’m sure, is that if there’s anyone out there that can hear this transmission… ( or perhaps someone in particular— ) It would be in all of our best interests to re-group or at least share anything we’ve learned with one another.

( and then, a slightly muttered… ) If you haven’t all gone and gotten yourselves killed yet, at least.

((OOC: please list if you are directly speaking to Sparks, Barkeep, Midna, or Vincent to address the group in general))

Modecai and everyone else,

First of all, I would like to apologize for how I acted a few days ago. I feel as though a lot of this is due to me being so focused on my research that it ultimately got the better of me.

Now, for the reason why I am sending this to everyone and not just in response to you, Modecai. Two months ago, when Palitutu wrote to us, she told me about how we, as Heroes of Light, kept everyone but us at arms length. At first, I thought it was just some sort of selfish way of thinking. But, the murders and Biggs yelling at us made me realize that it's not just that. It's way more than that.

When the Sage sent us those visions, we all pretty much made a vow not to head down that path. We've failed. In our attempt to uphold our morals and do things the way we handled it in our home worlds, people died. Zelda's blood and the blood of the other citizens are just as much as on my hooves as they are on your hands. We attacked each other in our attempt to uphold our own set of morals and we're turning each other not only against those who look up to us, but also against each other.

Biggs is right, this is a war. As much as we want to sit down and try to handle things without drawing weapons, this isn't going to stop the Calamity. It's not going to stop Palitutu and it's not going to stop anyone else who might want to harm us or allow the Calamity to come to pass.

I know what you're thinking right now, that you want to try to talk things over, to find another way to handle things. The other way of handling things gets us attacking each other. The other way of handling things leads us to that vision.

Like it or not, it's time to start being real Heroes of Light. In my world, Friendship is Magic, but right now, we need a stronger kind of magic and we can only do that if we stop putting ourselves first and put this world first.

I recommend that Biggs join us, as well as anyone else from this town to do so. They deserve to help out as much as we do them.

Faithfully Yours,
Twilight Sparkle

Everyone,

It's been a few days since the incident, and I know we're still all upset about what happened, but this isn't the time to get all sad and hopeless. Palitutu is coming in a month, and we need to work on a way to stop her from causing any more trouble.

Now, you all have your own explanations for what happened, but here's what I think our biggest weakness is: teamwork. Being a band of heroes is like being on a sport team, only it's a sports team your parents sign you on without your permission. If we don't work together and come up with a plan of attack, we're going to lose the match. We're all plenty strong on our own, but that's not enough when the enemy has the Ultima WEAPON on her side.

What we need most of all is to stick together and communicate. You know that old saying, something about friendship making misery go dissipate? It exists in one form or another. I read it in a book. And I know what it's like to see strangers and people you care about die. It's not always easy, even for someone who grew up on Mars. It's one of the harshest planets to ever live on, where you don't know if an alien invasion or outlaw will barge in and kill you. But humans and other intelligent lifeforms have the ability to rebuild and improve, which is what we will do. We learned from our mistakes, and life goes on.

There's going to be a meeting this month, one way or another. It's a good time to calm down and eat a decent meal, but it's also the time to bring our ideas together. Instead of going with our own plans and fighting over what to do at the last minute, we're going to be a united force to be reckoned with.

I can set something up next week at the Observatory. Ashe and Zelda took good care of the place, and we won't let them down. I expect everyone who's showing up on August 3rd to be there. Don't you think you're going to get away with working under everyone's noses. Bring your Moogles. Bring your friends. This is our world to defend, and we're going to do it together.

Go Team.

- Modecai Benmont Jiminy

RE: War

The content of this letter isn’t for everyone. Pretty sure the concerned parties will recognize themselves soon enough.

We got a report from what’s happened on the 03rd. I don’t know if you’re Heroes of Light. I know even less what Heroes of Light are supposed to be. But that’s not important. You’re people and you’re fighting in a war, whatever your reasons are. That’s what matters.

War isn’t pretty. People die. Sometimes people we care about, sometimes people we couldn’t give any less of a damn for. Some of you get it. Some of you don’t. On the 03rd, a great number of people we don’t care about died. We don’t even know their names; they’re only numbers on a list. You’ve had a chance to prevent more of these people from dying, but to do that you would have had to kill one of your own. Of course, you prioritized her safety and more of these nameless people did die.

I don’t care what you believe in, how things work back in your home world or whatnot. You’re not going to save anyone with poetry and flowers. If you can’t or aren’t willing to fight and kill when necessary, don’t get in the way of those who can do it. You’re being only a hindrance and nobody will applaud you for standing by some stupid moral standards.

Short version: if killing is too much for you, then stay home and wait for the Calamity to destroy the world.

For Free To Good Homes: Seven (7) Experience Orbs.

Keeping one for myself, and one already went to Ib. But if you're going to accept one of these, it comes with conditions. You're taking one because you actually need one, and because you're going to use it so you can use your strongest Jobs to stand with us in the defense of Aqures Ixen come August.

If I can't cut and run, neither can you.

But now that I've got everybody's attention. I need some assistance at the Observatory, if we're going to keep the place, and if the Guild of the Heroes of Light is going to continue. Her Highness Zelda was doing a lot to keep us afloat, and was coordinating with a number of the other remaining governments in the world. I was assisting her part-time, but since we lost her, and the other gentleman who was here a lot has run off (a decision I can't fault him for, honestly), I can't do this all alone. If I don't get some help here, I'm going to have to quit at the Laboratory, which is going to set back some of the research.

No experience needed, write letters, file paperwork, crunch some numbers, but if you've got some diplomatic or administrative background, you'd be welcomed. The pay's nothing, and the thanks is less than that, but at least the tea is good.

To: Tazendra, Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Yuna, Ramza Beoulve, Chrom, Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armor.

(All of the enclosed get copies of this letter, and all replies will be sent to all. Every time the moogles deliver one to Kaji, they seem to come back with Kupo Nut cookies to encourage them for all the extra work.)

If you're getting this letter, then the last time that there was a discussion about who could step up to lead the Heroes of Light if anything happened to Princess Zelda, your name came up. You are people who have exemplified what both the Princess Ashe and the Princess Zelda were trying to exemplify in leading us before. And you are people who other people have already started looking up to and listening to. You can feel free to decline, or to nominate someone else that you think is better for the job. The only person I'm gonna outright veto is Marshall Nevada. Even though he fits the exact characteristics I put up above, he's needed where he's currently at. Decide amongst yourselves, or pick somebody else, but we're getting a new leader.

And, before this discussion even gets started, I suppose I have to apologize to Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor for accusing them of murder.

We all need each other now. The first Hero of Light dying for real was what set off the division between Heroes in that vision the Sage sent us. If we want to avoid what we saw? We need to change that future now.

-Ryoji Kaji.

-----

To Sparks Nevada.

(One experience orb for Kaji, one for Ib, seven for sale...where is the tenth orb? In a package specifically marked for the Marshall.)

What I said to everyone goes double for you. This month would have been so much worse without your efforts. And you nearly killed yourself doing all that you could. This was the best way I could show that it was appreciated. And to let you know that we need you standing in Palitulu's way in a month's time. Specifically, you.

You're a leader, not just to the Heroes of Light, but the people of Aqures Ixen. We're all going to be looking to you when the time comes. There's not really anything you can do now to change that. So, maybe this will help you be there at your best.

-Ryoji Kaji.

To whom it concerns,

As we all know, the city's in danger - and most likely, the world - thanks to Palitutu, and it's time that we find as much help as possible. While others might be working on defeating her, I want to focus on protecting Aqures Ixen. If the residents can't evacuate, we need defenses.

I'm going to visit Mograma this week and ask him for advice. However, if we want him to help us out, he might ask for his freedom. I want to go over that with you, seeing that this ain't only my place, and the people of this city might get opinions on the matter. All I'm asking is an agreed-upon limit to what we can offer.

Me, I think transferring him to a comfier cell or giving him something nice is decent compensation.

Take care,

[On June 3rd, Rialynn is walking slowly backwards up the airship ramp, one hand gripping the reins of her horse's bridle, the other holding out a slightly unripe apple to coax her mount up onto the ship. The pack on her shoulders is fairly light, containing a couple of her more fragile instruments, her journal, some assorted travel guides, and an extra change of clothes just in case her saddlebags get misplaced.]

[The horse gets plenty of stares, as it's a strange-looking creature to the natives, and Rialynn is quick to assure them that the mare is beyond harmless.]

Dear Mordecai,

I hope you're feeling better. That was a nasty flu. I was starting to really worry that Make sure you rest up, I'd like to hear that you're in top shape when you reply.

After talking with Ramza, and seeing how quickly that town to the south fell to the Calamity, I'm starting to wonder if keeping a record of everyone's stories is really what I should be doing. Everything is so desperate, and I can't help feeling strong pangs of guilt just singing and dancing to lift people's spirits. It doesn't feel like it's enough.

So I decided maybe it would be best if I started traveling to the other cities. I'm certain the Aqures Ixen library has been scoured over a thousand times, there's no point looking for answers there. But maybe in another part of the world, there's some secret or clue we haven't stumbled upon yet. It'll probably take me at least a month to visit all the major places, longer if I visit the smaller places too, even longer if I'm thorough about it.

The next airship departure is the one headed for Mysidia, so I'll start there. It's the least explored area anyhow. Maybe the Sage will allow me to ask him some questions, if I'm lucky! There are a lot of places to look, so that seems like my best bet. I'll keep you updated if I find anything of use, and I'll probably stop by a couple of times in order to transfer to other ships.

Anyway, I need to pack, and prepare my horse for the journey. Would you tell Ramza I won't be playing at the saloon for a while? He usually walks me home on his patrols, and I don't want him to worry if I'm not there. I appreciate it. Take care of yourself, and let me know how you're doing. A friendly letter or two would be very welcome while I'm gone.

Your Friend (and often absent employee),

My Fellow Heroes of Light,

I understand that we are at a crossroads of conflict at this time, and that there are arguments about what to do in regards to things. My suggestion is to do our utmost not to react in anger or fear, but to look at the situation critically and follow a plan that puts us in a more informed or otherwise better position than we currently are.

On a personal note, I would like to hear about the various jobs that can be equipped from those who have been using them. I am considering taking on a new one and prefer to make informed decisions on such things. I currently have both the Scholar and Ninja ones. My only true preference that it be a job that can be effectively used with only one arm.

Safety and Peace,

Hey, everybody.

I just had a quick question, actually. I've only started recently dating someone, but I'm not exactly sure what I should be doing with her. I know video games and all are her forte, and honestly, my first pick when it comes to an actual date, but I was thinking that maybe some variety would help a little.

If there any tips anyone could give me in regards to dating, that would also be highly appreciated.

To Everyone,

I hope this letter finds you well. It has come to my attention that our ranks have swelled once more, and rather than leaving it up to chance, I propose a event. A cookout, held at the Observatory gardens on Thursday, March the 10th between Noon till 9. Think of it as a mingle, a get together party in order to foster good spirits and wellness among our people. Of course our hosts are invited to this, Cid and his merry band of friends, as well as our other major suppliers and their moogles and interested folks from the regions.

I offer this token of friendship in the hopes that we will be able to get along.

RSVPing to this letter is not required, but it would also allow us to prepare tables and cooking equipment for everyone involved.

Everyone,

It's come to my attention that Aqures Ixen has an underground sewer system, and I'm concerned there might be something dangerous inside. Therefore, I am imploring anyone willing to explore the place to do just that and check for any monsters living deep inside.

I'll be organizing this trip, not planning on participating, and I reckon the 15th is a good date as any. If you're interested, please write to me so I have an idea who'll be coming.

Sparks Nevada,

I've been meaning to tell you this a while ago, but last month, I got talking to Sephiroth and there were several things that worry me. I don't want to give too many details over mail, but he's a bit of a mad science experiment turned arsonist on his home planet. Tifa knows all this, but she all she's doing is "keeping a closer eye on him" (even if she seems too okay with him being around when he's the cause of her troubles) as he currently has no memory of turning evil while she's from a universe that has.

There's no telling when he might snap and kill one of us, and I needed to talk to someone I trust.

With the new arrivals that have arrived I thought that we should do something to really welcome them. Sure we don't have a lot right now, but all we need is good company at best. So I'm inviting everyone to C-01 probably one of the bigger houses for a little welcome party~!

We all will get together, play games, get to know the new arrivals and even maybe getting to know ourselves better. I will set something up that will happen within the next few days, but I'm hoping got it to happen on the 12th.

For those who might be interested please let me know ASAP so I have the idea of numbers. New arrivals you are our special guests and I will expect to see you, hopefully. Ace however, you have no choice. You are coming.
