To: All Heroes of Light
[ This letter comes in a purple envelope, sealed with the crest of the royal family of Aqures Ixen. Biggs may not reply to all answers. ]
RE: War
The content of this letter isn’t for everyone. Pretty sure the concerned parties will recognize themselves soon enough.
We got a report from what’s happened on the 03rd. I don’t know if you’re Heroes of Light. I know even less what Heroes of Light are supposed to be. But that’s not important. You’re people and you’re fighting in a war, whatever your reasons are. That’s what matters.
War isn’t pretty. People die. Sometimes people we care about, sometimes people we couldn’t give any less of a damn for. Some of you get it. Some of you don’t. On the 03rd, a great number of people we don’t care about died. We don’t even know their names; they’re only numbers on a list. You’ve had a chance to prevent more of these people from dying, but to do that you would have had to kill one of your own. Of course, you prioritized her safety and more of these nameless people did die.
I don’t care what you believe in, how things work back in your home world or whatnot. You’re not going to save anyone with poetry and flowers. If you can’t or aren’t willing to fight and kill when necessary, don’t get in the way of those who can do it. You’re being only a hindrance and nobody will applaud you for standing by some stupid moral standards.
Short version: if killing is too much for you, then stay home and wait for the Calamity to destroy the world.

So why didn't he kill Rialynn back there? It might have been cruel, but it would have at least spared a few more lives. Why did he hold back?
The fact he can't think of an answer is in itself worrying.]
Understood.

Sure, there's one or two people who really want to turn this into a battle of broadsides and want to try to solve this through force on force. Us and Palitulu and whatever's left of the Heran Empire could blast at each other in the biggest conflict time and space have ever seen, and we would still all die, because the core problem hasn't been solved.
Every time someone tries to turn this into a war, it sets us all back from stopping the Calamity. It's a force of nature, not some enemy you can outmaneuver.
So please stop making things worse and let us do our jobs.
Jack Harkness
P.S. If you also sent this to the 11-year-old girl and made her cry because she hasn't saved the world on your schedule, you should be ashamed.
no subject
You failed your job. If you're so eager to glorify what's happened, go give your fairy tale explanation to the 11-years old girl.

Yeah, that wave of Crystal is getting a lot closer and we are all feeling the pressure. But that means working together, not splintering more. You too. If you insist on seeing us as weapons, then we are the only weapon that's going to work on that Calamity. So don't set fire to half your arsenal by writing stuff like this, just because you don't feel in control.
-Jack Harkness

But you didn't even try. You clung onto stupid ideals and got people killed because of it. Worst, you don't even question yourself and your methods. Rather than doing so, your first reply was to question me without an ounce of introspection. You're static and doomed to fail should such a situation like this happen again. Now stop with the show of righteousness and self-pity. I've heard enough from the likes of you.

You will not care to hear it, but in muly world, my commander chose to sacrifice a maiden to save many others. That act led to more murder, civil war, and the toppling of a dynasty. Countless thousands died, and everyone suffered.
So even though you, and others, will say, 'the ends shall justify the means', I know that is not true. The world is cruel. People will always die. We cannot 'save' everyone. But, in spite of how often it fails, we must try. Lives are woven together in ways unknowable, and one cannot be severed but at the detriment of many others. No innocents should be willfully condemned to die. I will oppose doing so every time. You will call me a fool, I care not. I was not called here to be a 'Commander of Light'. I am only Ramza, and I cannot be other than what I am.
By my own hand,
Ramza Beoulve
[In the envelope with this letter, Biggs will also find Ramza's Law Enforcement badge.]
no subject
I don't handle resignations for your rank. Take it to Sparks.
No one told you not to be Ramza. What we've told you is that Ramza could be a better person if only he made the effort. By not killing Rialynn, you allowed more innocents to die. Was it alright not to kill her because she killed only three? Would her killing a thousand have made it right for you? A million?
The answer isn't in the numbers. You know what had to be done and were simply too weak-willed to do it. Poetry and misplaced morals won't change the facts.
Biggs

Retroactive foresight sure is a great thing, isn't it? That killing Rialynn outright was the better answer? For all us that never had any military experience or went to war or had to kill one of their friends, it's a lesson we needed to learn.
Can't say some of the Heroes didn't try. But there were others that stopped them. Even if I'm no killer, I tried to keep Rialynn from running away.
If you're saying we should kill each other the next time this happens, so be it. But the real issue is teamwork. We all got different ideas on how to deal with problems, and it ends in more trouble as you've seen. Next time, we're going to talk about how to deal with Palitutu and this mind controller before we storm in.
Happy now?

Trust me, I'm much for suited for the quiet life out on a cottage. But it's not like I got a choice whether I wanted to come here or not.
And you can't say there weren't folks that were more than ready to kill her.

You're right. If I'm going to save this place, it's going to have to happen differently than it is now. Not sure how, but I'll figure it out on my own. But, I've proved that as a law enforcement officer, I'm unfit. Consider this my resignation.

Resignation rejected.
You've screwed up. Either you run away, either you suck it up, live with it and make sure next time won't be the same. Keep the badge if you pick the later. Don't care about ever hearing from you again if you pick the former.

And just what would you have us do? Do you expect us to simply fall in line with your ideal because of a verbal tongue lashing? Is that going to slow down the Calamity? If your answer is no than congrats on being a huge hypocrite. No matter how much fighting, no matter how much death and how many people die, it won't change anything. I don't see you offering any bones to help put the pieces of this puzzle together.
Maybe instead of scolding us like the children that most of us are not, you should try working together with us. Trying to get us to fight amongst ourselves won't help this situation so piss off already. You're not my Commander and I'm not taking orders from some callous jerk who doesn't have the balls to speak to us in person.

Hey Mr. High-and-Mighty-comandante kupo!
HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU KUPO! I don't even have proper words to just describe what you did. You're forgetting one thing kupo--but I know a few of us haven't. None of our 'heroes of light' ever asked to be here kupo. They are doing the BEST THEY CAN, with no instructions, against horrible odds. AND this world just keeps beating them down kupo! My own hero? She'll hate me for saying this later, because she isn't a kid--but she's also only 15 kupo! Had her birthday recently, and been here a year. She was from a normal life before this kupo! (Well, aside from apparently her going to visit the land of the dead regularly...)
She's done what she can, as have other Heroes, and you wanna make them feel bad Kupo! SHE VOLUNTEERED AS BAIT to try and lure the murderer out kupo! I am SO glad other heroes had sense, because I worry about her enough as it is!
We're worried too, and I'm definitely pissed off that more people died. BUT maybe try giving them all more HELP KUPO instead of laying blame!

We did our best. And it's not fair to say we don't care about those people. But I don't know what else to do.
How do we fight someone who can make us do anything? What would you do?

A few days ago, I had a breakdown over this letter. I let the stress and anger over everything simmer and this was the tipping point. Now that I have recovered enough to read this over, I have to say that, in my capacity as a foreign dignitary, you are out of line. You write to us and treat us as if we are your soldiers. We never signed up with your army and while we may be your guests in this town because of our status, we also want the respect that you want out of us.
You yell at us expecting us to murder one of our own because it's the only way, that there was no other way to save civilians because "this is a war". No, this is not a war and there is always a way to save others without spilling blood. It's not easy and others may get harmed in trying to do so, but it shows that there is always another way besides the "easy way".
If we were your soldiers, you would have trained us, prepared us for this sort of event, and you didn't. You and everyone else who has "helped" us has just thrown us to the wind, expecting us to know what to do and when we don't, you throw a hissy fit. If Queen Sarah were here, she might be ashamed at your actions. I certainly am.
You have lost our respect over this letter and your actions. I'm certain that there those who are no longer willing to trust you because of this. I will not be surprised if this happened. Give us a reason to trust and respect you again and you might get it back. Friendship is a two way street.
Faithfully yours,
Twilight Sparkle

And, quite honestly, I could care less about yours. Where were you when this was happening? Hiding behind the castle walls, expecting us to clean up this mess. And what about Zelda? She's dead, as well, or does she not count because she was a Hero of Light and we're expected to die for this world?
Why don't you tell that to her world if it's still around.

First of all, I want to apologize for the title misunderstanding.
Second of all, I want to let you in on something. Where I come from, my kind is incredibly powerful. My teacher and her sister move the sun and the moon everyday. I have the potential to do that and so much more. I don't know what limits I have here, but I'm scared of finding out. I mean, theoretically, I could smash the castle with a giant boulder from where I'm sitting and not harm a soul. But, I'm not like that.
You're right about one thing - it was wrong of me to bring Zelda into this. And, as much as I hate to admit this, I think something Palitutu said to me two months ago is also true - we do focus too much on ourselves and not the world around us.
I think it's time to change that.
Faithfully yours,
Twilight Sparkle
Re: Also sent to the other Heroes as well as NPCs
Thank you for writing to everyone and disappointing me. I heard what happened and knowing that you let people die because you wanted things to go your way, I lost all my respect for you.
It's one thing to throw a temper tantrum because you're frustrated things didn't go out well. It's another when you're the reason things ended so poorly and refuse responsibility. I should have known ever since you called yourself a princess. All you "rightful rulers" ever do is act like your status makes you blameless.
You're just as bad as the ruler of my world. He fails to protect his land and refused to admit he did anything wrong. Oh, but Polukus is wise! We can never criticize him! And here you are, acting like a child!
Thank you for making me realize something. Even if I escape to another world, there will always be people like you. I should have known better than to think of you as an ally.
