To: All the Heroes of Light || [NPCs Q&A]
[ This letter comes in a purple envelope, sealed with the crest of the royal family of Aqures Ixen. ]
Greetings.
I am one of the Queen's advisers in charge of this city in her absence. I trust the Moogles explained the situation to you. "Heroes of Light," or so do the legends say. I have no doubt this is hard to believe, and of course, many people over here don't believe it either. The Queen did believe it though, and accurately predicted your arrival. I don't think this is a mere coincidence. Needless to say, the population of this city isn't supposed to be aware about any of this. Now, given how "talkative" some people at the castle are and how flashy some of you tend to be (from what I heard), I would expect weird glares and murmurs to be a thing in the weeks to come.
With these formalities taken care of, I imagine you have a lot of questions. If you do, please reply to this letter with your question and we shall do our best to answer them. Keep in mind, we have no idea how you came here and we know very little regarding the Heroes of Light beyond broad facts.
• If you have questions regarding the Crystals, Jobs, magic and science in a general manner, please address them to Jessie. She is our specialist here when it comes to Crystals and Magitek. According to the legends, Heroes of Light possess the powers to switch between Jobs. So if you need a new Job, she's the person you should pester.
• If you have questions regarding the military side of things, the political status of our world and things like that, you should address the questions to Biggs. He's the chief of our armies. Be warned he's not convinced you are 'Heroes of Light' (he's even less convinced you do actually come from other worlds), so don't expect his replies to be the epitome of elegance.
• If you have questions regarding Mognet, please address your inquiries to Artemicion, the director of Mognet.
• Finally, if you've got something to ask about the legends, history or this city, then your question is best addressed to me. Speaking of which, if ever you want to move into another house or something, address you request to your Moogles and they'll transmit it to me.
If you don't know who to address your question to, then we'll do our best to answer it anyway. Whether you choose to help our world or try to find a way back to your world, the Queen asked us to help you, and this is what we shall do. We're working on getting you Chocobos at the moment but it may take some time.

My name is Shelke Rui.
I need to know if you have a substance called mako here, and requesting that I be granted access to a supply of it. You may refer to it as something else, but it would be the distilled, refined essence of the life energy stream that comprises the underlying architecture of a planet. On my world it is used as a form of energy.
If you do not have mako readily available, I would need access to whatever medical and technological fabrication equipment you have, assuming it exists, as well as direct access to a sample of this world's lifestream.
This is a life or death request.
no subject
We have no substance similar to this Mako you speak. However, we do have equipment that makes use of the "magic" found within Crystals to activate our Magitek. Should we interrupt and modify the process that converts Crystals into the necessary energy to activate Magitek, it is likely we could manufacture a substance similar to the Mako you speak of.
I will not, however, give access to our Magitek facilities unless I know why this is a life or death request.

I was going to ask about what the law enforcement here was like, but if this Biggs fella thinks we're not from all different places, I ain't sure I want to deal with him. What exactly does he think we are, then? A bunch of lying nutjobs?
--Sparks Nevada, the fella who would like to go back to being the marshal of Mars

As for law enforcement-- You said you're a Marshall, so unless this 'Mars' you come from is some kind of dictatorship I trust you can imagine what kind of laws and law enforcement are in practice here. If you do want details though, I'm afraid you'll have to ask Biggs. Don't worry he doesn't bite.
P.S.
I asked him and Biggs called you a "bunch of over-glorified
nutty peasants." Don't worry, I'm sure he'll have
warmed up to you by next year. Probably.

To Wedge
Firstly, let me introduce myself, Ryoji Kaji, and I have quite a few questions.
The big one that no one seems to be able to answer is "Why us?" If there's a legend about us coming here, did it specify anything about who, specifically, would get chosen? Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that I was the man you chose, but I could have pointed you to quite a few other people in my world who would have eaten this hero stuff up.
Everyone seems to be under the impression that someone is responsible for picking us. If this is, in fact, not true, then you should really make that very widely known to the heroes. A few are already beginning to blame 'those in charge' for their appearances here.
In addition, at least one of those chosen is a nine year-old girl, Ib. I'm certain you have a list of all of us, are there any other children here? Either way, it doesn't look good that anyone expects children to do their fighting for them, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was out of everyone's control. Not everyone else is that generous.
This isn't just a question you should answer to me, but one that should be addressed to everyone. At least, that would be my suggestion. If you need any other information about what the heroes are up to, feel free to contact me at any time.
Thank you very much,
-Kaji
P.S.
Yes, Shinji here did, in fact, explain the situation to me. Please don't cut his salary.
Yes, I actually said that, Shinji didn't write it in on his own.
no subject
As for the child-- I heard about it, I believe she's living in your house? No worries, nobody here's expecting her to fight. I was going to send her a letter about our schools by the end of the month. We can't force her to go to school given she's not strictly under our jurisdiction, but I would appreciate it if you could slip a a word about it to her.
As far as I know, a lot of you are young. I know of at least one other who supposedly looks like a nine-year old, but I do not know her age for certain.
And as much as I agree that we should address these answers to everyone-- We neither have the time nor the means. We've learnt about your arrival roughly ten days ago, and then we've had to cope with the panic ensuing the Queen's disappearance while organizing the Festival of Light. Not to mention we're constantly under the threat of an Imperial attack, among other things. I'm trying to do my best to coordinate things here, but if it had been up to Biggs, you wouldn't have a house to sleep in, let alone a Moogle to help you.
If you all could share information as you receive them, without expecting us to regularly make public announcements to clear misunderstandings, that would be both helpful and appreciated.
P.S.
Shinji should have, in fact, told you we didn't pick you.
But I'll let it pass.

Jessie,
With regards to our natural abilities, is the seal permanent? If so, then what is the growth rate for acquiring additional abilities in these new job classes?
My Moogle stated that the Crystals must remain in my possession. What are the consequences for losing them?
Biggs,
Are there cities in opposing factions to one another? Which city currently possesses the most powerful military strength?
Wedge,
What are the Queen’s intentions? Are the Heroes of Light expected to become her soldiers?
- Gaara
no subject
1) I do not know why your natural abilities are sealed. Without further investigation, at current time it is impossible to say whether this is permanent or not. As for your Jobs, you can find a list of abilities along with the growth rate in my laboratory.
2) Death. However, this is only a theory. Until one of you does lose his/her crystal, I will not have an definite answer.
-- Jessie
[ Should the list in her lab be consulted, they will display the abilities and growth rate like on the Job page. The growth rate is however, as participating in events speed up the growth process. The exception are the final skills of the White Mage and Scholar Jobs, both of which are not listed. ]
Most nations here live in peace. The Heran Empire is the exception, they are by far the most powerful military nation on the continent.
Biggs
Nobody knows what the Queen's intentions are. But I can safely say she wouldn't expect you to become her soldiers. She didn't say anything in her letter, only what we already told you.
If we could find her, no doubt she'd have answers to all of your (and our) questions.
no subject
Three separate letters follow, a few hours apart.]
Wedge,
Biggs isn't the only one who considers this entire arrangement incredibly far-fetched. That said, the accommodation provided is more than suitable so please accept my gratitude for being so hospitable at such short notice.
I'd like to know more surrounding the disappearance of Queen Sarah, in particular. What were the events directly preceding her last orders to you?
~Sephiroth
---
Jessie,
I understand that Magitek is the indigenous energy source and that these Crystals have something to do with it? Crystallized byproducts of energy, produced naturally, is incredibly rare where I come from, so I'm intrigued to know more about the process.
~Sephiroth
---
Biggs,
Could you furnish me with a brief history and synopsis of Aqures Ixen and our relative position with regard to the other nations of this World?
Legends of Calamities and Heroes aside, I am keen to get on with whatever it is we were brought here to do.
~Sephiroth
no subject
Surprisingly, nothing out of the ordinary happened before her disappearance. Now that I think about it, she did look anxious, but I then just thought she was merely concerned about the Festival of Light. One morning, her Moogle gave us her letter and she had already disappeared.
According to the letter, she left on her own accord and the one thing we all agree on is that the letter was indeed written by her. But that's about all we have regarding the circumstances of her disappearance.
1) Yes, the Crystals are the energy source for Magitek.
2) The process is a mystery even to us; I could give you some basics but I am specialized in pure Crystal research, not in the workings of Magitek. The man who created the method to use Crystals as an energy source, Cid, could tell you more. Imperial engineers would probably know more as well.
-- Jessie
History isn't my domain. if you want a brief history of Aqures Ixen, ask Wedge. Politically speaking, as of now our Kingdom has lost much of its influence. Thirty years ago we dominated the continent, but today this place is held by the Heran Empire. We are on good terms with all nations, save for the aforementioned empire.
Wedge says you were brought here to save this world. I think this is an exaggeration. If you can help us deal with our problems with the Empire and Eidolons, that'd be great already.
Biggs.

Thank you for your time and attention to address matters. My name is Angeal Hewley and I was a SOLDIER operative back in my home world. I want to address something that has been bothering me about your letter. The moogles are working hard to help others and they're just as much in shock as we are. Don't you think it's a little extreme to cut their pay?
On to the matter of the houses, is it possible to make an addition to the ones that we reside in or will we have to move to a larger one?
-Angeal Hewley
To: Jessie
Thank you for your time and attention to answer my questions. My name is Angeal Hewley and I wonder about the crystals. What do they do? Are they necessary for our survival? What will happen if they crack?
Now for the jobs. Why is it that I can wear only what the moogle has with him and nothing else? The armor, I admit, needs adjusting. Is there someone I can talk to that will adjust it or will I have to pay for the service? Oddly enough, this is something I've done back home, but I have to ask anyway. Why are our skills called "jobs"?
I apologize that I had loaded these questions on you like this, but they have been on my mind since I have arrived. Thank you for your attention.
-Angeal Hewley
To: Biggs
My name is Angeal Hewley and I have questions that I would like to address about the the local laws. Is there something we need to know aside from common courtesy? Is there a cultural reference that we should know about to prevent offending others?
As a Hero of Light, I would like to understand better how to interact with the people without creating an uncomfortable environment. I would also like to ask how these laws are enforced. Is there a court system or is there a marshal law in place? Who would I need to contact for problems without resorting to vigilantism?
I appreciate your attention on these matters.
-Angeal Hewley
To: Artemicion
Greetings, my name is Angeal Hewley.
My moogle has done me a great service. While we have our differences, communication is the key. I hope that you're not too hard on him. Mogington and I have an understanding now. Don't be so hard on him, please. He doesn't deserve the pay cut.
-Angeal Hewley
no subject
Hello Angeal Hewley. Given the amount of risks they're taking, the Moogles assigned to you have had their salary doubled. As it is, even if we were to cut their pay by 20%, they'd still get more than anyone working at the castle. I wouldn't worry about them, really.
You can add beds at your convenience, so long as you find some and they fit him. Otherwise, yes if you want to live with an important number of people, you'll need a larger one (Type-C) eventually.
1) As I suppose you are specifically referring the Crystals you are carrying with you, nobody know what they do. I suspect they are a link between your world and ours and that your powers (Jobs) come from them.
2) I believe them to be necessary for your survival.
3) I do not think they can crack under normal circumstances.
4) Your Moogle is incompetent. You should be able to switch with the clothes of your other Job or with your regular clothes. You can also buy clothes anywhere in this city. Armor adjusting is not my domain.
-- Jessie
Don't kill, don't rob, don't don't assault people verbally of physically. Go to a library to read the complete Codes of Law.
So long as you behave you'll be able to interact with people appropriately. There is a court system, seances are held at the castle when necessary. If you meet with difficulties, you should ask for one of the guards patrolling the city.
[ There is a note written here in a different handwriting, presumably that of a Moogle: "Wedge said you may also ask Biggs directly if a problem comes up!"]
Biggs
[Should the Codes of Law be consulted, all laws look relatively normal-- Noticeably, death penalty is abolished. There are a few weird laws, such as hats being forbidden from 21:00 to 06:00, but they're mostly forgotten remnants from ages long gone.]
The pay cut was Wedge's idea, not mine! I promise his pay won't be cut.

Why do all the crystals have different shapes? And is it bad if one of my jobs is thief? I really didn't steal anything.

Mr. Wedge-
If the queen knew we were coming, does she know if we'll ever go back? Also please don't be mad at Rose. She's been really nice and works very hard.

2) Thief is a Job. Whilst those who chose this Job are sometimes, indeed, professional thieves, its uses are more varied than mere robbery.
-- Jessie.
I cannot say for certain whether she does or not know, but if anyone here may know, it's her. Hence why we ought to find her back.
Asking the important questions over here...
Can I start a Blitzball team? Is there a form or something I have to fill out?

Thank you for this notice and for your care in this situation. I was wondering if you could tell me more of this legend. Not the legend itself but what happened after that. What happened to the remaining hero's and this land. How did this country form and what happened since it was created?
I realize these questions might be something someone have asked and I know telling me the whole history of this land might be arduous but I wish to know more. I am hoping to find the Library if there is such a place here. If you know of any other legend's or histories you suggest someone new to this world to read, please inform me of them as well.
Thank you for your efforts,
Zelda~

The most common version of the tale seems to indicate the Heroes of Light were sent back to their world after the Calamity's defeat. However, other sources also indicate some of the Heroes did die; you may have seen the play a couple days ago. It's based on a version of the legend. The only constant between all the versions is that the Ancients predicted your return-- Therefore, I assume it means for the Heroes of Light to return, they must have left at some point.
As for Aqures, the history of our nation is much more recent. The events with the calamity date back to two thousands years ago. The Legend of our country says the Kingdom was founded four hundreds years ago only, by the last descendants of the Ancients (which would make the queen a descendant of the Ancients). But that's a legend, thus I cannot say whether it is true or not.
What is fact, is that a hundred years ago the royal family found an abandoned Castle of Ancient construct, this very castle, and they founded Aqures Ixen. With Aqures Ixen, Aqures Tosf, Trano Golsaucia and Balicea, the kingdom dominated the continent up till the accident twenty-seven years ago. Now... Aqures Tosf is gone, Trano Golsaucia is independent and Balicea is mostly left to its own device. Our kingdom has pretty much become the shadow of what it once was.
Don't worry about asking too many questions. However, as I said to another person, I encourage you to post on Mognet or meet to share what you know and maybe come with better theories than ours; we are very busy so we won't have time to answer these questions for everyone. If you could share what you all know, it'd make everyone's tasks easier.

I was a soldier back home. I was trained to fight with a rifle and the occasional sword. Why did I end up with this Black Mage crystal then? HOW did I even get it?
More importantly, how am I supposed to use magic without materia?
My moogle hasn't been the most helpful on helping answer these questions.
-Cloud Strife

2) I know not what a Materia is, but I suppose you are referring to an object allowing you to use magic. You do not need one. The power is within you, you need to focus and learn to master it.
3) I understand better why Wedge wants to cut their pay.

I'm not sure who to address it to, but since you're the one for jobs and such, I'm thinking this is a good bet. Anyway, I've been told I'm a thief and an archer, but instead of using the bow stuff Zal's been pestering me to use, I feel better using my guns. They're common where I come from and getting ammo was easy but I'm getting the feeling that ammo around here isn't easy to come by. My question is are there places where I can find stuff to replace my ammo with or otherwise make my own? Zal seems pretty unsure about finding bullets but then again, he's always got his nose in a book.
Anyways, thanks for your time.
翔

If you want to find ammunition for firearms, there are two places where you can find them. The Imperial City of Hera and Aerilon. I recommend against going to the former. Going to the later will require you getting a ship in Balicea.
