If I haven't introduced myself before, my name is Ryoji Kaji, and I guess you could say I'm taking a survey of sorts. I know we're all trying to figure out how we're getting here, not to mention, how we suddenly have a lot of skills that we didn't have before. Or, at least, that's what I'm doing, don't know about everyone else. But I found it odd that I've never fired a bow and arrow in my life, and now I'm an expert. I want to know why. I think a few of you do, too.
Now, I'm not noticing anything missing, myself, but some people I've been talking to have. People who could shoot guns don't have that skill any more. I've met some people who can suddenly cast magic when they couldn't before. Can anyone suddenly not cast magic?
I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone find that they can't do something any more that they used to be able to, back in their home worlds? And, if you feel like sharing, do you still remember everything that you used to know about it? Is it just skill that's missing, or is it knowledge, too? Especially anybody from a technologically advanced world, any home that is vastly different than this one, I'd really like to hear from you.
Once I've established some kind of a pattern, I'd be glad to share my findings.

Back home, I used to be able to fight physically and cast magic but here I can't do that. Instead, I have two jobs: one that allows me to see opponent's weaknesses and strengths, immunities and so forth with the other that is a strict hand to hand combatant. While both jobs I have done were something that I am familiar with back home, it makes living with just one or the other challenging.
I do have my memories as a monk from home and a scholar of the same, though I am left with the conundrum of picking only one at a time, if this makes any sense to you.

Nice to meet you, Baralai, and I guess I have some follow-up questions. You used to be able to cast magic, but similar to your other memories from home, do you still remember how, but it just doesn't work here?
Also, are there any other skills that you find you're suddenly bad at? Things not related to combat? For example, I still know how to cook, even though all the food here is different than back home. Haven't managed to give myself food poisoning yet.

I don't mind answering them. I remember how, but the spells simply don't work. As far as my physical skill is concerned, I can do the movements but the balance and power are substantially weakened as if my body had no conditioning at all. I never learned to cook so I cannot offer any explanation to the effect, but it sounds as if part of our memory has been simply locked away.
To give you an example of how this may work, if I may, in my world, memories are important. They take the form of pyreflies after our bodies die. These pyreflies are our memories, or fragments thereof, that float and give meaning to our existence.
In the Farplane, we can shape these pyreflies to bring about our loved ones into form though they cannot speak. It's similar to how our powers work. We must have a key, in a manner of speaking, to unlock those abilities and memories to give our actions meaning.
Currently, I'm researching the machination here.
