If I haven't introduced myself before, my name is Ryoji Kaji, and I guess you could say I'm taking a survey of sorts. I know we're all trying to figure out how we're getting here, not to mention, how we suddenly have a lot of skills that we didn't have before. Or, at least, that's what I'm doing, don't know about everyone else. But I found it odd that I've never fired a bow and arrow in my life, and now I'm an expert. I want to know why. I think a few of you do, too.
Now, I'm not noticing anything missing, myself, but some people I've been talking to have. People who could shoot guns don't have that skill any more. I've met some people who can suddenly cast magic when they couldn't before. Can anyone suddenly not cast magic?
I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone find that they can't do something any more that they used to be able to, back in their home worlds? And, if you feel like sharing, do you still remember everything that you used to know about it? Is it just skill that's missing, or is it knowledge, too? Especially anybody from a technologically advanced world, any home that is vastly different than this one, I'd really like to hear from you.
Once I've established some kind of a pattern, I'd be glad to share my findings.

Back home, I used to be able to fight physically and cast magic but here I can't do that. Instead, I have two jobs: one that allows me to see opponent's weaknesses and strengths, immunities and so forth with the other that is a strict hand to hand combatant. While both jobs I have done were something that I am familiar with back home, it makes living with just one or the other challenging.
I do have my memories as a monk from home and a scholar of the same, though I am left with the conundrum of picking only one at a time, if this makes any sense to you.

Why don't you read a book or something instead of asking all these questions! Or I don't know figure it out yourself.
I've always been awesome thank you very much.

I hope this letter finds you in good spirits. I must admit my curiosity in your subject of study. I arrived here just recently, and did not receive a crystal, as I have learned is considered normal.
I have noticed no new skills or abilities. As far as I can tell, my skill with a blade has not decreased. I was told in my youth that I had the potential to study magicks, but I chose not to pursue that path. I am uncertain as to whether that potential remains within me here.
I would be thankful if you would share your findings with me when you are able. In my world, I encountered crystals that granted tremendous power to their wielders, but at the cost of their humanity. I pray these crystals are more benevolent in nature.

I haven't lost any of my skills with guns and while this place is a bit weird without having any internet, there's still the whole moogle thing we can use. I've haven't forgotten anything either about home except why I woke up with a furry friend that wants to sleep wrapped up in my jacket.

I have also found myself capable of sacrificing my own vitality to empower my blade, that is a talent I'd not possessed before coming here.

I was certainly not aware of others learning abilities they had no experience in! Back home, I was a bit of a researcher and inventor, and the Jobs given to me improved those skills. I only assumed that we were given ones that were related to our strengths back home.
Have you spoken to someone with no magical abilities that suddenly gained them when they arrived?

People actually shoot bullets here, too. Like lead bullets or whatever they're made out of. No laser pistols at all. Probably a good thing that I can't shoot straight anymore - I've got nowhere to get them charged or fixed now.
This place is weird.

I have found that I am without certain abilities I possessed back home. I've tried to use them, but to no avail. I guess my abilities were a type of magic and now I find I cannot use them. I've pretty much found for me to be only the skill that doesn't seem to work, not the knowledge of it all.

For my part, the Jobs that I have been primarily assigned work well enough together for me not to have had to adjust my combat style too much. However, for whatever reason, I find my ability with them are somewhat lacking in comparison to how it was before. Not through a lack of knowledge at all,;all my forms still apply as do the techniques used with them.
However there is a notable exception. Despite that I arrived with Materia, they are now useless. Despite the fact I can clearly remember how to cast magic with them. Whether this is due to a lack of a magical Job, or some other consequence entirely, is debatable.

I didn't have magic or skills like these at home. I do remember techniques and strategies that I have seen taught in my fathers school. These have helped me with my own fighting here.
I believe that even if the magic or skills have changed people still retain what they know. If you find anything though please let me know.

I appreciate your effort in this endeavor. If I can help in any way apart from giving you what information you ask for, do let me know.
In Ivalice I am able to cast much more magick than I can here in Crystallis. My access to the Arcane, Green, and Time magicks has been cut off completely and I no longer have access to the majority of my White and Black magicks. My pacts with the Espers of legend and the Glyphs of the Beast also seem to have been severed. I cannot say how much of this interference is caused by the lack of Mist in Crystallis, or the very nature of being on a different world or in a different dimension, or even if it is caused specifically by the jobs we must equip. 'Tis possible that the job crystals could be interfering with whatever connection we may otherwise keep to our homelands - there are too many unknowns and I haven't the knowledge base yet to say for sure.
I am expert marksman and archer, and proficient in many weapon styles including the martial arts. I do not feel that any knowledge of these skills has been taken from me, though I do feel a change in constitution, as it were, that I can surmise is caused by my equipped jobs. I do not see why I would not still be able to fire a gun or shoot an arrow, however I am reluctant to engage in melee combat due to this change in constitution caused by my current status as a summoner.
Do feel free to ask further questions should you need clarification.
Best,

Then again, I was only beginning my training back home. I can't really say if I lost any skill or not.

When it comes to powers, mine are gone. I guess they wouldn't get along well with the powers from these jobs. Still, I feel it's rather backwards that we can't keep our powers. I would think the more expertise we possess, the faster we could finish our mission. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk, I suppose.
Back home, I got trained in many melee weapons and hand-to-hand combat, but I did notice I became more adept in using a spear now but not so much with hand-to-hand since that's normally how I'd fight. Also I wasn't exactly a magic caster back there either but I've yet to try the magic orientated jobs.
