To All Heroes

To Everybody:

Whether we've met or not, I'd appreciate a reply from as many people as are willing, especially if you didn't just come from a version of Earth.

So, let's talk holidays. Christmas, I was willing to let pass as a coincidence. Any civilized planet out there with a winter season ends up with some version of a winter solstice. It doesn't matter the time or the planet or the alien race, they've got some kind of tradition that we would recognize. Celebration for being 'almost out of the dark,' as a friend of mine would put it.

But Valentine's Day? Definitely a product of Earth, of a specific time period of Earth, to be sure. At least, in my experience. And that's where you guys come in. Anybody else, not from Earth, have a custom or a legend like this? Something specifically surrounding a holiday, something that's celebrated. Also, is anybody else reading up on Aqures Ixen legends enough to know if we're going all going to be dealing with rabbits and eggs in two months? If so, I'm calling shenanigans now.

Kidd looks around the room for a moment before finally taking a seat with her back to the wall. This place will do well enough. She remains tense though, never letting herself grow complacent or stop watching those around her.

"Mmm, makes sense to keep things hushed up. How did you get your information if I may ask? I didn't get the impression that they were sharing it with us." She's not sure she completely trusts Biggs, Wedge and Jessie, but it's as much healthy mistrust as anything else. "And what was it the Queen was supposed to know?"

Kidd nodded as she listened. She'd mostly been keeping to herself, unsure of who to trust. It was clear that it would be important for her to reach out to other people if she wanted to get to the heart of things.

"I did notice that, aye. I was wondering how they were able to manage it. How long before our arrival did the queen go missing?"

Jack raised a good point about their benefactors in the city. Perhaps she should be a little less critical of them for a time. It wasn't going to help in any regard.

"I may have to do that. You mentioned Sparks. That's Marshall Nevada, isn't it? Perhaps I'll have a word with him. As for priorities. I think we both know what is first. Once we deal with that, then we can turn our attention back to finding out more of why we're here." And with any luck they may find a clue in the Empire.

Kidd nodded but was skeptical. A peaceful outcome would be nice, but given that their allies were taken from a battlefield and given the details of the recent dream they all shared, she din't believe that the would get them back without a fight.

"Perhaps, but as I see it we face a specific adversary who is hiding behind a larger group. The problem is we need to go through them to get to her." Kalki was the serpent head, at least the one that was visible. Come to think of it, what DID they know about the Emperor?

"Your friend sounds like an impressive man. Still, many of us have people stuck back where we came from that we'd rather have here." Her eyes told another story. She'd seen someone from home recently. Someone she was worried about.

Jack spoke of scale that Kidd couldn't fathom. The words made sense to her, and she was sure he knew what he meant, but she simply couldn't picture it all. "Yes, I think I saw some of Miss Zelda's notes mentioning another research location had exploded. That was the first sighting of crystalized people, was it not?"

She sat back as the waitress brought them their order. Kidd took a swig from her bottle of ale as she sorted her thoughts. "To be honest, I think I only manage because this is all too fantastic to be believed. I suppose it helps that I was...dying when I was brought here. For all I know none of this is real."
