My Captain is very fond of the hat he wears. Though it doesn't look like much, it certainly means a lot to him. I suppose that is a very pirate-like trait.

Pirate is a class, like Warrior or Thief or Black Mage. They all come with their own standard costumes, like the robes I'm wearing or armor and a shield. Pirate comes with a long coat and a hat.

Pirates wear what they want. They don't belong to a class or a place in society. To be a pirate means to live a free life. Pirates can wear those things, but not all pirates do.

You sound a lot like one of the Celestial guys in Marejois. You wouldn't happen to have a fish bowl on your head, would you?

Well, you can always change your clothes, especially if you do the alternate costume sidequests. I always liked putting everyone in butler outfits.
