[TO : ALL][TO : EDGAR, SABIN]

Hello,

I was curious if someone could bring me up to speed, what is this Christmas holiday exactly? Mogtague tells me that it's about presents (namely presents for him), but after the last time I trusted him with something, I have my doubts.

The decorations are beautiful, but I'm not entirely sure what the point is. Apparently there is someone named Santa Claus, who delivers presents? I still don't think it's possible for someone to do all of that in one night, but I've seen stranger things. Miracles can happen, after all.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you very much.

- Celes

From what I understand, gifts are exchanged during this time of year. I can make a few guesses about what you might like, but it would probably be easier if you told me.

My budget is a bit tight right now, but I will try to do my best to get you both suitable gifts.

Where I'm from, it's a religious holiday, but most people ignore that in favor of gift buying and parties and stuff. Seems like it's like that here, too.

The whole Santa Claus thing is something you tell kids to get them to be good, or he won't bring them gifts. Kind of weird when you think about it.

Birth of a religious savior. People brought him gifts in the story, so I'm guessing that's where the whole idea came from.

Santa Claus came a whole lot later. Had something to do with a saint before turning into its own story.

Now that I'm writing it down, I realize I don't know as much about it as I thought I did. It's such a normal thing where I'm from that I never thought about it much.

It's not prying. This place isn't much like anything I'm used to, so I had a lot of questions. Still probably do.

Hello Celes,

I'm honestly not really sure of the details myself but I know it is also called the Starlight Celebration. I think it gives people light and hope when winter is at it's worse. It might seem silly and some of the stories might sound impossible but that just makes it feel like the magic of the holiday. Like anything could happen if you tried.

It might sound silly but I think that is what it is and what it's for. I'm really enjoying it.

Your friend,

Dear Celes,

Gift giving does seem to be common for this time of year. I have bought gifts for everyone but I don't think its mandatory.

A gift should be something from the heart, to show how you care for the other person. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive but its the care you put into it that makes it special.

I hope that helps.

Dear Celes,

It's a little hard to explain through words but it can be something simple. As long as you have those feelings when you buy it or make it. I think that when they see it, no matter what the present is, they will feel what you did when you picked it out. That's what makes it special.

I'm sorry if it's confusing. I hope I have helped.

Dear Celes,

I promise that you will know it when you feel it but I do wish you luck.

[It's late, he's nothing else to do in the barracks - so why not take the time to reply to a request for information. He can at least give the details that he knows.]

Dear Celes,

It depends on where you are in Crystallis, different regions have different takes on it. Here in Esdham it's referred to as Noel but it's hardly as decorated here as I've heard it is in other places.

If the story is to be believed, Santa Claus was a Hero of Light who took it upon himself to care for the children of the Ancients - who had been left with little or nothing in the wake of the destruction that the Calamity brought about the World. He enlisted the help of the moogles to bring gifts to all of the children, to lift their spirits and such was the start of the Mognet as we know it.

Though, as with all things you hear of Legends - it just seems like the latest in a stream of celebrations that are recognized in this World.

[Sephiroth is also busy; being in the military now is a constant routine of much the same drills and training every day. Which for the most part is why he joined. It's another day before Celes' gets another reply.]

Dear Celes,

They had only just started decorating when I came away from there, I'm sure it looks rather picturesque by now what with all the snow.

If you'd like to know more about the Legend of the Heroes, the moogles tend to be bursting with both opinions and praise about their work thousands of years ago and the libraries in Aqures say much the same thing. More or less, depending whose work you would read.

The Calamity is said to have been an outside force that came down from the skies onto this World with every intention of destroying it. I don't know really much more that that. It all ties into the overarching Legend we all have gotten ourselves unwittingly caught up in.

Dear Celes,

Not surprising to find correlations when the base legend is all the same no matter how many times you might read or hear of it.

Have you gone any further afield than Aqures Ixen?

Dear Celes,

That's sensible. There are a few of us that have been here for a while who are working to create something of a community- the Mognet is generally the first place to go if you need any additional insight.

Personally I haven't done much of the tour around Crystallis in it's entirety but there are others who have been further afield. The Shoopuf service will take you to Balicea, Flence, Trano Golsaucia in that order so they seem to be the places to start.

Back home, Christmas is a very romantic night for couples. Santa is more for little kids who are too young for the other stuff.

But my country got the festival from overseas so it might be different in other parts of the world.

It's a big date night back home. A man will take his wife or girlfriend out on a date and dessert and to see the lights, and they'll exchange presents.

Celes,

My guess is none of us even have a budget yet, so you aren't alone in that.

Maybe we could all get together and do something fun instead! Or have a nice dinner somewhere!

( p.s: Never give Edgar a chance or reason to invent a gift for you, trust me. )

Celes,

OF course. I'll see what Edgar thinks and let you know.

And there's an awful lot of holiday stuff going on. We could probably go see what's up with all of that.
