[The dictation process is a little harder than it needs to be for Link. He keeps pausing and um-ing and deciding he didn’t like what he said and needing to go back and correct things. All in all his poor moogle is more than a bit confused, and they wind up having to start over. Twice. But eventually Link wraps his head around what he wants to say, how he wants to say it, and makes Marin read it back to him to make sure she got it. Finally satisfied he sends his message out.]

To: Everybody,
Hello, my name is Link. I’ve been told this land is in trouble. Where do I need to go first to help? I’ve been given a sword and a shield and a flute already, so I shouldn't need anything else to get started right now. Thank you.

[For such a short message it took him an awful long time to write. He waits eagerly for replies, getting the hang of his new flute while he waits. It’s such a weird shape.]

"Yeah, that's totally too big for you. But, really they... well, most other blacksmiths don't really take into account the variety of people that get brought here." Basically he can see Link's point.

Walking over, he puts his hands out to take the shield away to look at it a little better. "Okay, let's see what we've got... You were holding it kind of weird. Are you left-handed?"

[Link hands over the shield without complaint, nodding as he does.]

Mhm.

[He seems to be relaxing a little bit as MarKus works. He's heard and seen a lot of confusing and troubling things in the short time he's been here, but this is familiar. Weapons, defense, gear. This is good.]

"'Mere kiddo." he says, taking the shield and setting off to the side. "You gotta shape you prefer? Some kinda design or somethin?" he offers, taking out a blank scroll of parchment and rolling it out. Hopefully he's not too short for the table to give him input.

"If we're going to make you a shield for you, we may as well go all the way and make it YOURS." he says. A shield just for him. Not the Hero of Time, for him.

[Link shrugs, his first shield was little more than a carved piece of bark. It had been a little lopsided, and the shape was just "sort of circular" and it had worked well enough for him. ~~Although it could have used some fireproofing~~. As long as it's sturdy he doesn't care much about how it looks.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't have ideas for a design.

The table isn't too tall, so while it isn't the most comfortable arrangement, Link manages to take a stick of charcoal in his left hand and jot down a rough design. When he's done he backs up, gesturing at it vaguely.]

It's supposed to look more even and stuff.

MarKus nods. Ideally it would be even and mathematical. He's just a kid so it's not like he expected Rembrant or schematics to be put on the paper. "Dude, that's easy. I can make that happen for you. Easy."

As such, he turns the paper towards himself and starts to re-draw it, making it more even what with a flat edge being used and all. "And what about the handle? Put it on the other side, wait, no, I don't know why they put a handle on it really but we'll just get some good leather straps on there and you can hold it on either hand. One thing I never liked was how they always made Mobile Suits right handed. I don't want my shield in my left hand unless there's a pile bunker on it." he grumbles as he redraws, which Link is more than welcome to ask what all these weird complaints and terms are.

But in the end it looks like he'll have himself a Hylian Shield (Link Kai). "Come see me in a week or so. I always get busy about the time New Heroes arrive."
