MarKus read over the selection, and slowly wilted as he did so.

"That brat... really?" he mutters. He's not too sure how he's supposed to react but... he tries to take is positively.

"Well... look... I see what this says but... even if she's like... here... now... I don't know who the mom is. I'm still... yanno... I haven't had sex yet. But what does that matter anyway." He could read HER file and find out she's an anolomy... a singularity.

"I still like you. Now. Why point this out?"

"Because I'm not in your future. What's the point if we can't stay together?" As strong as Yuffie makes herself, her heart is still fragile. It's hard to get close and even harder to stay there. She's constantly in fear of losing what she has, be it her country or her family.

There is to much she wanted to protect and for the longest time she hadn't cared about others because she knew she'd loose them too.

Yuffie turned away from MarKus. "You know, when I get home... I'll probably have to marry someone my dad picks anyway." Wutai wasn't stable and it needed help which usually came from political marriages. Not that Yuffie wanted that but she had read her file, it felt inevitable.

"If you were from Gaia... maybe it'd be different."

As much as it made sense, and, at least Yuffie's side of it was super real, and logical... That doesn't mean MarKus can't try and make himself be the stubborn optimist.

Someone had to be. Sometimes... it's best to not grow up, for the sake of everyone else... don't be the adult.

"Haven't we talked about fighting destiny though. Just because these files say something... it's like... assuming we weren't pulled OUT our own worlds." He felt like he might start repeating himself. But he was hurt and trying to fight it off.

"And even besides that... why can't we be happy now? Who knows how long we will or won't be here... Why... why give up something just because of what might be, instead of what you know you can do RIGHT now!" He voice was slowly raising, if only to make his point that he, in fact, cared about her, and took her companionship, their relationship to heart.

It hurt that he was trying so hard. She really wanted to believe him but Yuffie was terrified. She wasn't all that strong when it came to things like this.

"I thought about that to but... this is different. Just look at Sephiroth..." She quickly realized that it might not make sense. "I come from the furthest point from Gaia... the others don't remember things but they will happen." Her voice sounds like she's in pain, like she's wishing it wasn't true.

She didn't want to pull away but it hurt so much.

"I want to be happy forever..."

This was the sort of fight he didn't know how to win. He wasn't much a thinker... just... plow through things and the best would come in the end.

And explaining time didn't work either, but just as much, his point was proven and disproven. If people from her past still had to go through the same...

"Ugh... time-space fuckery." He actually voices his overall, yet illogical, complaint.

Dropping his file, he just moves over and throws his arms around her. Her last words hit him like a truck.

Yuffie was surprised to feel the warmth of MarKus's arms surround her. It's a comforting feeling but she didn't want to get lost in that. Having him close make her heart ache more but she couldn't bring herself to pull away.

Her arms circled his waist as she nuzzled against his chest.

"MarKus..."

Her tone was a soft annoyed whine. She didn't want MarKus to hug her or make her feel this way. Yuffie really had no idea what she wanted and it was confusing and annoying.

"I know but... Why... why worry about the hard things. Why worry about the future..."

MarKus didn't have an argument anymore. He'd gotten to the point where it was just... begging without saying so. "I'm too... impulsive to think about the next day... Just... I want to do what makes me happy now."

Yuffie whined again and then began to hit her head against MarKus's chest.

"But I need to think of the future... I've always thought of my goals." There was always something that Yuffie worked towards and while she choose to laugh in the moment it was still moving towards a greater good.

"I just.."

It hurt and she can't even begin to form it into words.

"Shit's not fair, I know but..."

He backs off and curses a bit, turning to the left. "Look... I just know that... before all this complicated shit... I was happy being around you, and that's all that mattered. We'd hang out, tease eachother, annoy eachother, and sometimes run off and go be the hero but... Why is it different now..."

Not that his feelings changed directly, but hers... seemed to and it was affecting him.

"I know..."

Yuffie kept looking at him, if only because he had looked away from her. She studied his face for a moment before letting out a slow breath.

"I always seem to be the one who comes and bothers you MarKus..." She was used to chasing people but it was tiring. She didn't really want to do that anymore and yet it sounded like an excuse.

"It wasn't really bothering... not at all. It was just... I thought that was our thing. You were always out and about and I was always in the same place, working. I mean... no matter where you went all day... you always knew where you could come and find me."

He didn't know that she wanted him to go see her. He's so used to always having to work, every day. Fixing robots didn't have a 'day off' for him, and this was the same, working at the smith was his job... a job with no day off.

Yuffie just shrugged. It obviously wasn't the answer that she had been hoping for. "I guess." Her tone didn't sound happy about it either. She shook her head and then glanced towards the computer.

"You can read mine if you want."

It was easier to talk about the folders than it was about their current relationship. It was far to complicated and Yuffie didn't know what to do or how to articulate herself very well. Every retort just hides how she really felt.

More and more as they go on, MarKus fighting for it and Yuffie... to him, no longer feeling the same flame... things aren't looking good for him.

"Yeah, sure..." It was something to do... rather than standing there in awkward silence.

But surely just reading it would make things more complex... And even if he tried to stay the optimist, his own words, 'The future isn't set in stone', will probably work against him...

...and so he just reads.

Yuffie waited, she watched the back of Markus's head, her heart and stomach twisting into knots. She assumed it would be better for him too if she just walked away. There was no way for her to be sure of anything but her feet stayed glued into place as he continued to read.

She stopped thinking for a moment and stepped up behind him.

Her head lightly bumped against his back as he read. "You can keep reading... I just want to stand like this." Her voice was soft and without the whining she had earlier.

"It's fine..."

MarKus read on and on, getting to where she fought against that Sephiroth guy, then went back home after saving her world... then everything past that... It sounded pretty cool until after that... It was downhill...

But he wasn't her so... he didn't understand why she'd gotten so distant suddenly.

"You know... as long as I'm here... I'll Be here... for you. You know where to find me, any time." he mumbles.

Yuffie didn't move from her spot on his back. "But I want you to find me." She knew that he didn't let things get to him that he just went with the flow of things but she wanted to be there for him too.

It felt so one sided to her much like her friendship with Vincent. Yuffie didn't really understand how guys worked.

She's selfish and stubborn which was constantly holding her back.

Wait... was that like... a huge chunk of the problem.

It... may well be! Like... she always came to him but... when did he ever go TO HER? Hardly ever, frankly. But he had his job... and yet he was just used to... expecting her to always come to HIM instead.

"I... just hired one of the new Heroes to work at the forge. I'll have more free time..." he says, but then he has another issue, but a more light-hearted one.

"Where do I find ninjas? Bratty ninja princesses?"

Yuffie was almost hopeful by the idea of MarKus not being at his forge all the time but her hope was quickly squashed at his next question. She shook her head, keeping it pressed against MarKus's back.

"I don't know."

As it was she's gotten in trouble with so many people today. She'd probably be under house arrest for awhile.

"So then... tell me where I should start looking, when I start hunting down ninjas in my free time?"

He was trying ot smile, and at this point, quit reading her files in order to, hopefully, get her on the same page. A clue to where to start... maybe where she hangs out, or where she lives, somewhere he could go to chase her down.

She didn't really understand what he was asking and she technically wasn't the only ninja in Crystallis.

Yuffie clamped her eyes shut still refusing to move from her position. If MarKus moved she would probably go tumbling forward because she really wasn't paying attention to her balance.

"After this Mooshoo won't let me go anywhere anyway." Except for home and the training yard.

Of course, he does eventually move, to turn around, smiling still.

"Oh really? Then I'll have to have a talk with Mooshoo, won't I?" he smirks, though when she starts to stumble, he catches her; as if he'd let her just fall.

"But what I'm saying is... I don't even know where you live. You always come to meet me and... well... now it's a problem, isn't it?"

Yuffie just blinked. "You don't know where I live..."

She didn't think it was that hard to figure out. She looked up at him and quickly realized that their faces where very close. Her cheeks flushed brightly as she worked to straighten herself up.

"Well you should figure that out then."

"No! I mean... you always come see ME! I mean... you're always out when we meet up... And it's not like I stalk you!"

He hums a bit.

"You know what... I think I will find out!" he states, smirking. He figures he has a reliable enough network of... small fluffy helpers that'll get him the information he wants. He's got a sort of... ace in the hole~

Yuffie stared as he confirmed what they both already knew. She had always come to see him because she enjoyed stalking people. There was nothing wrong with stalking people. It showed that you cared... right?

"...okay. I guess. I'll go then."

She didn't know what else to say to him. He knew one of many things that upset her and she really just wanted to see if he'd find out.
