[Yuffie looks up at her with a sheepish smile.]

Well, I'm a princess of a Ninja village. Okay... maybe a little different...

[She's still the best ninja in Crystallis.]

[ And the hand stays right where it is. ]

Oh. Does that mean you have to marry someone to be its leader?

[ And yes, it's an innocent question, since that's how being a princess works in her world.

And she can think that all she wants. Sheena's pride is only in her Grandpa. ]

No, it means someone has to marry me to be a leader.

[They were so stuck in the past that Yuffie can't inherent Wutai though her dad will be looking to see her married which is something that she has worried about many times in the past.]

You're the daughter of the leader, but someone else will become leader when they marry you? Forgive me for saying so, but that doesn't sound right.

[ Even princesses who become queens by marriage do some ruling. Hell, the princess back home already did. ]

[She has a lot of confidence in herself and pride in herror family.]

[ For a moment, Sheena feels a pang of jealousy. Yuffie might not have read that part about her being abandoned... ]

No. It isn't. Grandpa doesn't have a wife, so his vice-chief is Tiga. But then again, there's no guarantee his wife would have been chosen to begin with. [ She probably would have. ]

Becoming the next chief wasn't exactly in the cards--even though I'm his daughter.

[ Yep. Grandpa is dad. ]

[Yuffie just looks at her with a confused expression.]

Then take it. If you love that place, those people, show them. It might be hard but they'll see how much you care.

[This is something that Yuffie knows well. While she's stubborn, rambunctious and filled with a past of bade decisions, those in Wutai love her.]

[ Well, you read her file, Yuffie. Surely it says something about her being found by Igaguri.... ]

Ummm... [ Now it was Sheena's turn to look confused. ] I think you misunderstand. Grandpa already named me his successor, [ Got a new uniform with it, as well ] and I didn't refuse.

What I was saying was that even though I'm his daughter, there was never any guarantee that was how things would work out.

[ And she was named that when some of the people in Mizuho still hated her but were willing to give her a chance in order to accept her. Being an outsider who kills part of the villagers tends to do that to people. ]

[She skimmed it.]

Yeah but you sound like you lost something. [It doesn’t sound like the talk of someone willing to lead a ground of people. Leading is hard, it sucks and it takes sacrifice, while Yuffie doesn’t like sacrifice she at least knows that much. She’s watched her father, her home and she knows what her future holds there, she knows what she has to do and she isn’t ever giving up.]

How will you give confidence to those you rule if you don’t sound like you have any yourself?

[Like seriously.]

[ Sheena sighed. ]

You're still not getting it.

Igaguri found me abandoned as a baby in the woods. I'm not his flesh and blood daughter or grand-daughter. And even if I was, even if I was overflowing with confidence, that was no guarantee that he'd name me his Successor.

It's not like your world. Being Chief isn't an inherited right. The current chief picks who the next one will be. He could have picked Orochi--who would have taken the name "Fujibayashi" as a result to carry on the tradition.

And it's not a lack of confidence on my part... They're just now beginning to trust me again after twelve years.

[Yuffie’s brain fizzles and shorts out. That’s a lot of information and honestly Yuffie isn’t one to fully pay attention. She tries to rethink it but decides that it’s far too complicated for her. She has nothing to add then and it seems like Sheena’s already made up her mind on the matter.

Though she can’t help but wonder if her father would pick someone else if he could. No one loves Wutai like Yuffie does but she’s often gone from the city. Suddenly she really just wants to be home.]

I get it. [Mostly.]

[Yuffie closes the folder that is open and slowly walks in a circle.]

Imma go. I have to go talk to someone.

[She doesn’t know if leaving after talking about something like this proper but she suddenly really needs to talk to Vincent. He knows more about Wutai’s past than anyone else in Crystallis, sides maybe Sephiroth and she isn’t about to ask the grumpy SOLDIER about her home.]

[ When Yuffie's ready, Sheena will explain to her that it's not her mind that needs made up--but the villagers. They tend to stay pissed when their family and friends are killed because of a 7 year old. Go figure.

But right before she had been pulled here, she had been in the middle of regaining that trust and turning Mizuho into a place a certain someone could return to with pride. And no, not her. ]

Somehow, I don't think you do, but when you're ready to hear "why" just ask, and I'll tell you.

[ Sheena takes the folder from the other girl and watches her, concern clear in her expression. ] Yuffie? [ But the girl's gone without another word, leaving Sheena to look in her own file...

And sinking to the floor for several minutes immediately after. Blindly groping her way to her feet, she brushes of Corrine's concern and returns the file to its place before making her own way out.

There was someone she had to talk to, as well. ]
