First Bite | Knives to a gun fight?
[ Forward dated to: November 9th ]
"Heroes of Light",
Wouldn't you say it's a commendable effort recruiting this many people in a singular plight to protect the world from Calamity? Not just this world, but by extension our own, too. Who or whatever is behind this is quite impressive, collecting dozens, if not, a hundred heroes. I wasn't aware such power existed to this degree.
This god complex of the responsible party overstepped boundaries, and you're no different if you take ownership of the title granted to you by this facadé. What entitles you to think, if you comply, you'll be returned, or heroic? Or do all heroes believe what they're told? By serving, are you convinced you're doing justice?
Changes don't magically happen, and blood will spill in this civil strife against the painted enemy, but you must have already consented to that if you think yourself to be a hero.
[ The letter has no close. ]

Fellow Hero (if I may presume that you are, indeed, here under the same circumstances as the rest of us),
You make several interesting assumptions. I wonder what it is that has jaded you so. Do you plan to rise up against this power you seem to despise? I would be interested to know what your own plans happen to be concerning the matter. Surely you must hold more ambition than the others.
~L
[She folds the letter and gives it to Mograma. Once he leaves...she follows, and nods at Kupozen, who nods back. He follows too, just in case Mograma goes somewhere that the earthbound Ellie cannot.]
[ Mognet > Action ]
The moogle did lead outside the city. He wasn't so ill-prepared that he didn't expect someone might be interested. So he wouldn't send or receive letters where he could be tracked down to his dwellings. The wilderness of outside the city was much more spacious, it was also easier to get caught. ]

[She moves carefully. There's not much cover, save for the occasional rocks or sparse trees, so he may well see her coming. If she does spot him, and knows that he's aware of her, she'll drop all pretense of stealth and hail him.]
[But for now, she'd like to get just a little closer, to see just what kind of person she may be dealing with.]
no subject
Without anyone to take initiative past the illusion of being a hero, they won't get anyway.
His letters were provocative, and it didn't surprise him if someone sought him out because of it. Right now, nothing hinted that he was being followed, much less watched, so he continued on. ]
no subject
You are causing quite a stir, it seems.
[She makes sure to stand a fair distance away when she announces her presence, to ensure she doesn't get a knife in the eye if he happens to be the jumpy type. Her hands are loose at her sides, rather than folded, just in case he is the sort to go for a weapon.]
Do you truly wish for information, or are you attempting to spread malcontent for the sake of chaos, I wonder?
no subject
Would my answer change your opinion?
[ There were many small things that went with with. A couple of people stood out, but most reacted as he expected.
Lucky for her, he was far from the jumpy type and remained still in his spot. Zelman didn't so much as move, but she might find herself in a bind if she crosses her boundaries. ]
no subject
[Her head tips to the side as she regards him, and stays right where she is.]
I have spoken with many of these heroes, and I do not like what I have seen and heard. Most neglect their duties for the sake of parties or a comfortable living. Saving the world takes place only when it is convenient.
But until your letter, I believed I must be the only one who sees it this way.
[Ellie searches his face, unblinking, unsmiling.]
So I pose the question to you: do you seek chaos for the sake of satisfying a dark urge, or do you seek the opportunity to change a system that is broken and in dire need of repair?
no subject
[ Sure, he could help the heroes, but she brought up interesting challenged. They lived leisurely? He wasn't aware of that, but then, could he take her word for it? ]
And you?
no subject
[She folds her arms now, a faint sign of trust.]
Particularly if its destruction endangers my own. I had to be sure you were not a madman. Our ideals would clash if you were the type of man to act on violent impulses. So. Tell me.
[Her chin jerks a little toward Zelman.]
What is it you are hoping to accomplish? What are your goals? We may be able to align our plans, perhaps.
no subject
My goal is just that.
[ She was cute if she thought he would reveal any plot he might have had. He didn't trust anyone here, and for good reasons. ]
no subject
[She sighs heavily.]
Very well. I will take care of the planning, then, if you have nothing of your own to contribute.
[That's probably for the best anyway. Her first step, then, is to try and figure out the big picture and how to make those pieces fall into place.]
no subject
[ Minato doesn't write it down, feeling like it would be too troublesome to argue his stance with a stranger, but this is what he says to the Moogle. After this brief comment, he gets straight back to work... leaving Zelman's Moogle free reign if he should mention his reply or not. The boy doesn't seem to care either way. ]
no subject
What if my instincts tell me not to comply to this singular plight?
[ It's all hypothetical, right? ]
no subject
Then don't. Caring for your own life in the face of danger, and avoiding what you think is troublesome is reasonable.
Even in non-participation, it kind of has a way of making you involved, however. I know because I've tried.
no subject
No DUH. I'm doing this FREE. I'm HURTING here! I should be using my awesome title to roll in the dough, but I'm pretty sure everyone will just get angry and everything.
Everyone's so picky about being heroes and everything.
- Deadpool.

Hero is a fallacy created by man. The word holds no weight unless the perspective is shared.
no subject
What's one more world? What's one more adventure.
I get what you're saying, and no, you shouldn't just blindly assume that it is just black and white, and it's not exactly the way things present themselves to be. But that doesn't mean just blow it off because it's 'not your problem'.
no subject
An avid world changer like yourself must be aware of the negative impacts you cause when you fight for what you believe, do you not? Or do you brush off the dirt you kick in favor of heroism?
It has been presented 'my problem' because 'my failure' inadvertently leads to the failure of my own world. Does that mean if I never were to come here, my world would remain unaffected, or would it have been consumed anyway?
no subject
I think that's bullshit. I don't believe that our worlds are destroyed at all. There probably are still some shady dealings in the way we're brought here, and that 'sensation' is part of the illusion to better convince us that we should stay and fight, instead of trying to get home.
Most people here are the kind that are willing to help anyway, and plenty of them have the better foresight and planning to consider that kind of 'negative impact' crap. I'm a man of action. I'll act, and do what I think is right, and if I'm wrong, then I'll ask forgiveness. Better that than waiting around trying to consider permission or consequence.
no subject
The letter does not address the populace as whole, but those who regard themselves in a heroic manner without understanding the impacts which their just causes.
No one said anything waiting.
no subject
Who says we are heroes? This is not a title that I give myself, even here. I know what a hero is like and I am no hero.
Would you rather us stay here and die? I believe in destiny but I also believe in fighting that fate. It's already costs us a lot, so I assume you are one of the new heroes. Should you have questions I will happily answer you but don't assume those who choose to take this title do so lightly.
It is a choice. Just as it is your choice too.
-Zelda
no subject
What do you know if all you know is what this world has given to you? Can you prove that this destiny is the only path you're meant to take, or are you versed with more than one and believe each to be different depending on your choice?
I have many questions, Zelda, an no one has a clear answer. Enlighten me of these heroes who don't take their title in vain.
no subject
[He makes everything sound so depressing.]
We learn, it's impossible to know everything and it's assuming knowledge that can cause damage. There also many paths we can take, if what we gathered is correct. If you have more questions you are welcome to come to the observatory. I've been trying to gather as much information as I an about this world and our place in it.
As for the other heroes, you should go out and meet them. My word shouldn't be enough to prove that they haven't taken that title in vain.
~Zelda
no subject
I have met some heres, and they are disappointing.
no subject
I won't claim that those brought here are heroes but they shouldn't be dismissed either. We all have our own strength as you do yours.
~Zelda
no subject
I look forward to this display of strength, if there's any to be had.
no subject
There is strength and if you see it nowhere else I will show it to you.

If you harbor concerns, perhaps you would be better served by naming yourself. I am unsure why you assume we are here to claim glory or fame. I desire neither. Given your disdain, I presume this is the same for you?
I am under no illusions about the possibility of violence and bloodshed in the days to come. It is my hope that we can avoid both, and I mean to sue for peace between the warring nations of this world to present a united front against a more pressing and mutual foe. If you choose to stand with us, I would welcome you gladly.
Whatever your plans may be, I wish you good fortune. May we be victorious and return to our worlds soon.
Signed,
Chrom

Judging by your reply, you must be familiar with fighting for your belief, or even the concept of war.
Your gratuitous nature will work on some, but not all.
no subject
I value direct speech. Whether your opinion is wholly accepted or rejected, it matters little. Speak without fear of causing offense.
You refer to humans as if you are not one of them. May I ask what you are? Perhaps I might better understand your position if I knew from whence it came.
Your guess is correct, as I hail from a land that has barely seen the end of a long and bloody war with the neighboring halidom. It was hard fought, and precious lives were lost. I would not readily engage in another war if circumstances can be avoided, but I will not shy away from taking up arms if that is what must be done.
What of yourself? Surely you must have some desire to defend your world. What will you choose to do?
Signed,
Chrom

An Old Blood. [ Alternate name for old vampire, but he didn't expect anyone to pick up on that. ]
Some years ago, my world suffered an outbreak that threatened all species alike if left unchecked. The crisis was averted, but not quelled. Extra measures were put in place to defend the city I call home. This outbreak changed the world into what it is today.
Crystallis may struggle with strife against the common enemy, but if this world cannot settle its own civil differences, our influence in menial.
no subject
[And he has no idea what an Old Blood is, nor has he heard of vampires before.]
It seems as if your world shares some striking similarities with this one. You are correct; the political strife between nations and races is troubling to me as well. I've begun researching the history of politics and warfare, but I am not certain how much impact I can make, if any. Perhaps if more of us work together, we will have a better chance of achieving a peaceful union and solidification of goals and resources.
What of yourself? Have you made any plans as to what you will do here, or are you still gathering information before making a decision?
~Chrom
no subject
Then you're one of a few.
Problems of this magnitude aren't resolved overnight.
[ In other words he was still gauging. ]
no subject
I'm certain that I am not completely alone in my efforts. It's just a matter of time, to find the appropriate connections.
And that is not something I will argue. Even so, that is why it is important to lay the groundwork now, and to form plans and alliances to get the work done. Even a small step is still a step forward.
I wish you luck, stranger. You know how to find me if you need assistance.

We also had our memories taken from us and it happened in Cycles. Apparently, the side I was on lost the last time since I didn't remember the other Cycles. But I didn't end up going home at the end of the last Cycle I was in, I ended up here.
But the world isn't black and white and you're right, change doesn't magically happen. But it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Especially if you're the type to want to make that change.
I want to go home as much as the next person, but doing nothing won't get me any closer to home either. I'm sure we can figure something out, right?

[ i.e. A waste of Zelman's time. ]

I've honestly have never thought myself to be such a person. Heroes of Light is such a simple term to me to be honest. I've been called much worse in my own world.
Of course, I've never lost sight of the brutal truth in front of me. There is not a victory without blood to be spilled, unfortunately. No matter what right one tries to obtain, there will always be sacrifices in the process. In reality, having a title, and shouldering the world isn't as justified as it seems to be.
I question a lot of what this world has to offer, but I do not regret the assistance that I have given it. I believe I am doing justice out of my own beliefs and not of simple idealistic beliefs that cannot be made in reality. It would be a little too harsh to lump all the people who are considered "Heroes" in specific category.
There are good and there are bad. There are also morally gray and those who follow their own paths despite being forced with such tasks.

He doesn't fully agree with the reply, but its a lot better than some of the others. He'll let it end here. Zelman has nothing to say to this.]

As for service, I seek the things I have always sought. To guard my own world from intrusion, and to prove my own skill with blade and sorcery, to conduct myself with honor and to enjoy myself while doing so. I serve only Her Majesty Zerika the IV, Empress of Dragaera, my leige-lord, Duke Temma of Arylle, and Sethra Lavode, Captain of the Lavodes, two of whom are not here, and one of whom is in the state known as Crystal Stasis Everything else is at my own whim.
I have seen enough to decide that this cycle of the Calamity is a threat to the Dragaeran Empire, therefore I must address it in whatever manner seems appropriate. Should the price be my death, or the binding of my soul to this strange world, if no further souls are stolen from our Empire, then so be it.
Yours Sincerely,
Tazendra Lavode, Baroness of Daavya
