To all Heroes of Light

Greetings,

I’m looking for volunteers to accompany me for another expedition on the Continent of Ruin. Specifically, I intend to investigate the Mysidian Tower, located near the southeastern edge of the continent. The tower was supposedly built by the Ancients and its purpose has yet to be discovered. As things stand, it won’t be long before it’s swallowed by the Calamity and we’ll miss our chance to search it for any information that might help us in dealing with our situation.

I have reserved the use of the Enterprise from the 8th to the 12th. I realize it’s rather soon – unfortunately, recent events have kept me rather preoccupied. If you’re interested in joining the expedition, contact me and I’ll get back to you shortly.

Dear Jade,

Sign me up. I've only just returned to Aqures today but, pending a debrief, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to requisition some more of my assigned forces to dedicate towards this particular endeavor.

I'll be attending the lab on at least a few days in this next week, regardless, so feel free to catch up to me then.

That would be a load off my mind, thank you. A rear guard would be more than welcome. I don't particularly want any overly eager locals following us in while we're distracted.

[It's not like he's come to the Lab to visit Jade, given the work he's doing to attempt to extract a Custom Job from his Crystal, but such work -after two hours of testing a few certain 'parameters' only to have to await the results of more tests to his Crystal next time- becomes frustrating very easily.

Not to mention, it's gotten to the stage now where he's temporarily beginning to tap into a fraction of the potential of what having his SOLDIER prowess restored would mean, and -to be blunt about it- it's proving anything if stable. The last test run of his potential 'Combat Mode' had left the insides of his eyes burning and a thirst behind that he couldn't entirely attribute to anything in particular.

So Sephiroth comes out of the testing room, tucking his blue crystal back into his pocket, and bee-lines for the nearest water dispenser; trying not to crumple the plastic cup in his unsteady grip -or break the button of the filter with a near-clumsy over-application of strength- as he fills the cup]

[Jade has been teleporting back and forth between Aqures Ixen and Mysidia, preparing for the tower expedition. Thank heavens for mastered Illusionist -- this way he has time to drop by the lab too, provided that he conserves his mental energy sufficiently.

He's seen enough people coming for Custom Jobs by now that he's not surprised to catch another Hero having a less dignified moment after a testing session. The fact Sephiroth's powers aren't the easiest to adapt probably doesn't help.]

I take it progress is going slowly?

[Sephiroth is perhaps not gunning as hard for his Custom Job as others might be but considering the type of powers it might well unlock for him, how physically exhausting the process could end up being, and not to mention his other duties in and around Aqures and Esdham; he's putting what he can in.

Missing the button of the filter again, almost as if interrupted by Jade's question, Sephiroth grunts and flashes a decidedly vibrant flick of a look in Jade's direction before finally managing -by using his thumb, instead- to get at least half a cup of water. Which then he takes a long sip from before answering.]

Those moogles don't seem to think so.

[Another sip. Sephiroth looks like a normal person might do if they'd been through a half-marathon and were just past the panting-stage.]

Apparently I need to go slower...[A shake of the head indicates he's not got very much comprehension of how that'd exactly be achieved. His powers --in particular the mako-enhancement and it's parameters-- were either on or off, there isn't a volume or intensity control.]

I would certainly be interested. I have previously conducted a thorough study of the region for map-making purposes, but, just like you mention, there is little to no information to be found regarding the tower itself. A similar structure could be found in my world, heavily guarded within by a wide array of magic spells and creatures.

That said, would you suggest to make any particular preparations?

I'll take care of provisions myself, so all you need to do is bring yourself and your Jobs. We can hope whatever has kept people out for this long has also kept out any monsters, but I wouldn't count on it. Besides, there is no telling what kind of security measures the Ancients used to have around.

Any support you can provide in battle would therefore be appreciated. If the knowledge gained from your world is helpful for navigating the place, all the better.

Thank you for your response. And no, I wouldn't count on it, either. If anything, experience taught me that isolation encourages the more ferocious creatures to develop their own defense mechanisms.

It appears we could benefit from having some Scholars on board in case we come across any ancient scriptures, but from my side, I can only offer offensive spells and status-enhancing songs, should they be needed.

I'll be equipping Scholar myself, and I believe one or two others will be doing the same. I think we have our translation needs covered.

As for combat, we should be fine in regards to front-line fighters. Magic and support abilities are a welcome contribution.

Many splendid greetings to you, Miss Jade. If you have need of a guardian, I could spare the time, since you'll be in my neck of the woods to begin with. I'm curious to know what you expect to find in this Tower, but I suppose there's only one way to find out, isn't there? Shall I confirm a meeting on the afternoon of the 8th in front of the Tower's entrance?

Even in light of the many things we've been exposed to lately, I still do not see any reason to cease our investigations of this world and our purpose in it. I need to get some affairs in order and as long as you can promise we'll be back by Valentione's Day you can count on my assistance.

While I do have some jobs I have achieved the peak skill in at this point, I am presently working on some of those that allow me more magical skills. Do you mind if I use them, even if they are not at full strength?

Agreed. Refusing to face reality, no matter how cruel, is not an option for us. Now that we know what falling into despair results in, we have the responsibility to handle whatever secrets we uncover with much greater care than our counterparts in that other future.

We will return to Aqures Ixen on the 12th at latest, so you have nothing to worry about in that regard. I leave your choice of Jobs up to you -- we seem to have a number of strong fighters coming, so it should be safe for you to use this opportunity for training.
