I remember Boko. Well, I never forgot Boko. Oh, and I remember some stuff about crystals shattering. I remember Gilgamesh too, but that's 'cause I saw him recently.

Yeah, that guy! I saw him when we went back in time. We had a chocobo race!

[Obviously there is nothing unusual about that at all...]

Wait... Gilgamesh was here? Before the rest of us had arrived?

Yeah. He gave me the whole 'eternal rivals' speech and then we played carnival games. It was fun!

[He and Gilgamesh are friends now. Obviously.]

I'm really good at chocobo racing?

Well... yes...

[Oh god what.]

But there's something more important than that. You met Gilgamesh in the past, before Palitutu had summoned us to this world. Which means he's not one of the Heroes of Light. And he's not a doppelganger either, because he remembers what happened before he came here. That means he found a different way to come here. One that doesn't rely on someone else bringing him here themselves. And if there's a way in, maybe there's a way out too.

[Hang on. That's a lot to take in. After another long pause, he answers very slowly.]

So.... if we can figure out how he got here.... we might be able to.... leave?

[There's a definite question there. He's not sure.]

Exactly.

[Thankfully, Levy has a lot of experience explaining difficult concepts to complete idiots.]

If we can find him again and talk to him, we might be able to find out how he did it.

But how're we gonna find him?

Well... he said something about being your eternal rival, right? And you beat him at a chocobo race?

Yup! I'm pretty good on a chocobo.

[A boast maybe, but an honest one. Bartz is probably one of the most skilled chocobo riders in Crystallis.]

And we've fought a whole bunch of times before that.

So why don't we lure him out with a chocobo racing competition? We can put posters up, and they'll have your name all over them in big letters advertising you as the returning champion. And if that's not enough, we can put up a rare sword or something as the grand prize. The file says he's a collector, right?

That sounds like fun! I bet he'd love a rematch.

[He and Boko jr. will be an unstoppable team!!]

And yeah, he really likes swords. He left one behind actually. By accident I think. I still have it.

All right, so that's our plan, then!

[Hmm, on the one hand it sure sounds interesting. On the other, it'll probably be a lot of work too. But why not?]

Sure! What do we do first?

Well, first we need to get permission to hold a competition like this in the first place. I guess we ask Cid about that.

[At least, that's what Bartz has been hearing about him.]

Do you think he'll go for it?

As long as he doesn't have to do anything himself and we don't get in his way, he'll probably tell us to do whatever we want.
