To: all Heroes
[You should all be pleased to know that this is actually the second draft that Ven's written. He made the first, only for his moogle to criticize his handwriting and insist that he do it again, what with this being his first impression on the community and all. As deferential as he tends to be towards his elders, moogle or no, he gave in -- so while his handwriting is still less than desirable from a stylistic standpoint, it's readable. Be thankful that he wasn't in a rush.]
To everybody
Does anybody have advice on the best areas to train outside of town? I've heard about the monsters so I thought that would be a good place to start, but I'm still getting used to this job thing. I don't want to overdo it until I know exactly what I can do now, especially since my moogle says some of those monsters are pretty crazy.
[His friends would be so proud to see him being cautious and thinking twice about things -- although the fact that Mograe all but begged him not to take chances at his current level had something to do with it. (Plus there's no guarantee he'll actually stick with this caution but that's neither here nor there at the moment.) And speaking of--]
And does anyone know a Terra or Aqua here? They're friends of mine from back home. They might have weapons with them that look like this
[Sketched out below are two quick but pretty detailed designs, black-and-white renditions of the following:]

Oh yeah and the Terra I'm talking about is a guy, not the girl here who I already met. If you know anyone like that or if they show up later, could you let me know? Or just tell them that Ven's here. I'd owe you.
And if anyone wants a sparring partner, I could use one too! I'm used to training with others and that's probably the best way to break in these jobs and all.
Thanks,
Ventus

Unfortunately the only Terra I'm acquainted with is the young woman you mentioned, but I'll definitely keep an eye out in case one of your friends arrive.
As for jobs, they're a little confusing at first, I'll admit, especially if they differ greatly from the fighting style you used back home. I've had some luck going on quests with other Heroes? So there's another option for you. Fai and I were recently assigned a mission to the Mythril Mines, which are close to Trano Golsaucia and the Temple of Wind. And yeah, training would be your safest (if less exciting) bet. If you're still looking for sparring partners, I'd be willing to help out?
Also, not to go off-topic, but can I ask what kind of weapons those are? They look like a cross between a sword and a bladerang, so I was curious.
All the best,

Dear Asbel,
Thanks for that! I appreciate it and I'm sure they will too.
I guess I lucked out since the jobs I have are actually pretty close to what I can do already. It's just weird because my magic is really weak now. I did hear about quests a little. Those are like favors right?
I've done a lot of training before so I know it's not always fun, but that's OK. Having someone to practice with always helps. And yeah, I'm still looking! I know magic and swords already, so I really need the most practice on spears since I'm supposed to use them now. But it can't hurt to work on all of them while I'm at it, so any kind of sparring would be awesome.
Those weapons are called Keyblades. It's a type of sword. I don't thing I've heard of a bladerang before though.
Thanks,

It's no problem at all. Happy to help.
And that's right. On quests, Jessie will ask you to bring something back for her or to complete some kind of task (or both). A lot of the time they're used as a sort of exchange for items or extra jobs, but I guess someone could go on one for the experience, too.
Yeah, it's funny you should mention that. One of my jobs is also better matched with spears, but I haven't really gotten around to training with one yet. Not that spears aren't a good choice - it's just that it seemed a little odd to me, too, after years with the sword. But, yeah, we should totally spar sometime! Whenever you're up for it.
Oh hey, I see it now! They do resemble keys. And a bladerang is... Well, the name comes from blade and boomerang, so if you can imagine throwing a bladded weapon at an enemy, controlling its movements for a while, then having it return to you afterward, that's what it's like.

That sounds pretty handy. Mograe (my moogle) said that we can get jobs in the city to pay for things, but I've never done anything like that. It sounds like quests would be a good thing to get into until I figure that out so I'll talk to Jessie about it. Thanks!
And yeah spears look like a good weapon and everything but they're way different. Even if we just know how to use them because of our jobs, I'm not sure if I can combine a spear with what I was already taught with a Keyblade. Oh well. It will be interesting to try out.
Anyway, sparring with swords is probably where I should start now that I think about it. It's been a while since I've really fought and I should make sure I'm not rusty. I don't think I will be very busy anytime soon so how about sometime this week?
Wow those bladerangs sound pretty cool! Do any of the jobs use them or are they something in your world?

Yeah. I've never held a job like that before either - not one with regular hours and a fixed salary, at least. There seem to be a lot of shops hiring help, though, and some of the other Heroes have even gone into business for themselves. It's kind of cool.
Huh. It wouldn't be a bad idea if we had workshops for that kind of thing. After all, there's still something to be said for learning things the "good old-fashioned way". Besides, all the knowledge of spears in the world wouldn't help if a person just wasn't suited for it. But I'm getting a little off-topic here; this week sounds perfect! I won't be heading out of the city for a while yet, and I'd like to make sure Sophie's settling in okay.
Bladerangs are pretty handy, I have to admit! I don't think I've seen any around, actually, but my training instructor used one back home.

Oh OK. I'll have to ask around then and see what's out there.
Good point! Even if some of us are new to our weapons, working together would help us learn faster. I just hope my normal abilities don't get rusty in the meantime. And I guess I've got a little more settling in to do, but I'll let you know when that's done and we can get together. How's that?
Oh yeah, Sophie mentioned you were a friend of hers. I met her back in Trano
GoldsaGolsoGolsaucia. How's her memory doing?Ventus

Sure, that'll be fine. You can stop by B-08 whenever you're ready or send a note by moogle. Either one will probably work. And if I'm not at home, then I'm most likely out with Sophie.
Honestly, I'm glad she was able to meet lots of good people in T.G. (Let's just call it T.G.? It's a bit of a mouthful and I don't think I'll ever remember how to spell it properly.) So thanks for looking out for her.
And um, she's remembered a few things? Or "ideas" about the past? But I think it'll be a while yet before she remembers everything she's going to remember. It's kind of complicated, but last time this happened, something really specific had to occur for her memory to make a complete comeback.

Oh hey I'm not too far then! I'm in B-10.
And yeah, T.G. is good. It's better than having to ask Mograe how to spell it each time. And no problem, I was glad to help Sophie out. I made a good friend in the process.
Oh, so this happened before? That's too bad. But it's a good thing she has you to help out. If there's ever anything I can do to lend a hand, just let me know.
Otherwise, I guess I'll see you at training.
Thanks again!

Hey, you're right! That's only a couple of blocks away from us.
But about Sophie: it has. When we first found her, she couldn't remember anything about who she was or where she came from. I think now might be a little different from before, though. I think she might actually have arrived in Crystallis from a past time. And if that's true, then part of her memory loss is because for her, those things haven't even happened yet. Otherwise I'm pretty sure her amnesia wouldn't be affecting her now.
Thanks, I appreciate it. And you know, you've already done something great for her. I'd like Sophie to make lots of friends while she's here, and it sounds like the two of you are hitting it off.
Yeah, I'll see you then.
Thanks,
Asbel

A past time? That's actually possible?
[If there's a slight delay in receiving the letter, it's because he's paused to ask his moogle about it.]
Never mind, Mograe explained it to me. But I've never heard of anything like that. I know about time travel and all that but I thought it was made up.
Anyway, I was glad to make friends with her. Whenever I meet my friends again, I'll have to introduce them to Sophie so she can make even more friends.
Yeah, see you then!
